Men’s Golf Closes out Play at 2024 SEC Championship

4/26/2024 | Men's Golf

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Ole Miss men's golf ended its time at the SEC Championship in 9th place at 9-over overall.

The Rebels were unable to make the comeback jump into the top-eight teams to advance to match play, finishing 11 strokes back from the cut line. The No. 5 ranked Rebels will look to the NCAA Selection Show on May 1st to see where their postseason journey will continue.

"Unfortunately, our week is going to end sooner than we anticipated," said head coach Chris Malloy. "At the end of the day, there is only one team that is going to leave this tournament happy so we need to just use this as fuel to our fire to win a National Championship. The first step in that journey will begin in a couple of weeks and we need to get back, get healthy, and be ready to make a run."

The Rebel duo of Cameron Tankersley and Tom Fischer led the charge for Ole Miss, each finishing their 54 holes with an even score and tied for 23rd.

Fischer remained steady all week for Ole Miss, securing all three rounds even. Tankersley fell in the front nine of Friday's final round but came back to secure a 2-under bogey-free back nine to earn the position of one of Ole Miss' top individuals.

Michael La Sasso, who entered into the second round as a substitute, came up and provided for Ole Miss, making five birdies on the day and finishing with a 71 (+1) third round score.

Kye Meeks would finish stroke play tied for 41st at 3-over overall. Tim Tillmanns ended his time at Sea Island Golf Club in 58th at 12-over overall.

Ole Miss will wait to learn its postseason fate with the NCAA Selection Show, which is set to be televised on Golf Channel, May 1st, at 1 p.m. CT. It is there that the team will learn what NCAA Regional they will be traveling to May 13-15.
