OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss won the weekend baseball series in Oxford, but No. 2 Texas A&M won Sunday's series finale 6-0.
The Rebels (27-24, 11-16 SEC) weren't able to get much going offensively against Aggie starter Shane Sdao. The left-hander went seven innings, allowing only three hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
The Aggies (42-10, 17-10 SEC) got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning on a leadoff solo home run by Caden Sorrell over the wall in right field. But that was all they would score off Rebel starter Mason Nichols.
The right-hander had a solid outing, going five complete innings for Ole Miss, allowing one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Right-hander JT Quinn entered to start the sixth inning for Nichols (4-1). After Texas A&M scored three runs in the inning, left-hander Wes Mendes came in with one out and got the final two outs of the sixth on back-to-back swinging strikeouts.
The Aggies added a run in the seventh and another in the ninth. Right-hander Mason Morris closed out the final inning and two-thirds in relief of Mendes.
Texas A&M outhit Ole Miss nine to three in the contest. After Sdao, 4-1 with the win, the Aggies sent Josh Stewart and Evan Aschenbeck to the mound for an inning each.
The Rebels won the first game of the series this weekend 4-3 on Friday night, followed by an impressive 10-2 victory on Saturday.
Ole Miss plays at Southern Miss Tuesday night before traveling to Baton Rouge, La., to face LSU beginning Thursday night.
