Men’s Golf Looks to Final Round of NCAA Stanford Regional in Fourth Place

5/14/2024 | Men's Golf

STANFORD, Calif. – Ole Miss men's golf continued to hold its top-five placement after its second round of competition, finishing Round Two with a 276 (-4) score. The No. 2 seed Rebels will look to the final round in sole possession of 4th place at 547 (-13) overall.

The Rebels made 19 birdies for the second day in a row along with 57 pars to help them remain in the top five with a six-stroke cushion from the cut line. In order to advance to the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, California, Ole Miss must continue its momentum and remain as one of the top five teams after tomorrow's final round.

"There was certainly quite a bit of good out there," said head coach Chris Malloy on how the day went for his team. "I thought we got off to a pretty good start. Just, again, kind of killed our momentum a couple of times on the golf course towards the end of our first nine holes and then closing out our round. We just made some unforced errors that really cost ourselves. But overall, it's a step in the right direction. Just like I told these guys, I don't think we've played our best golf yet by any stretch of the imagination, and we're still in a good spot. We've just got to go out tomorrow and wipe the slate clean, play aggressively, and go get our spot."

Ole Miss was once again led by Tom Fischer, who earned a 68 (-2) second round score. The sophomore fell on his third hole of the day with a bogey but cruised on for the following 15 holes while chipping in three birdies. Fischer will head into the final round tied for 7th at 6-under overall and will look to earn his second career top-10 finish.

Cameron Tankersley came up big for Ole Miss, capitalizing with a 68 (-2) score. The sophomore heated up during his final nine holes, maintaining a 3-under bogey-free front nine. Tankersley currently sits tied for 20th at 3-under overall.

Kye Meeks continues to find success and go low at the Stanford Golf Course, where he shot a 69 (-1) second round. Meeks made four birdies throughout the day and heads into the final round tied for 14th at 4-under overall.

Tim Tillmanns went back and forth during his second round and left the day at 71 (+1). He ties for 33rd at even overall. Michael La Sasso was unable to keep his momentum up and ended his second round at 72 (+2) and tied for 55th at 5-over overall.

Ole Miss will compete in its final round at the Stanford Golf Course tomorrow, teeing off of Hole 10 beginning at 10:00 am CT and following in 11 minute increments. Ole Miss will be paired with SMU and host school Stanford.
