High Expectations
Expectations haven't been this high for Ole Miss football in more than half a century. The Rebels are ranked No. 6 in both the AP and Coaches polls for the preseason, their highest preseason ranking since 1970 (No. 5).

A Worthy Challenger
While fans might not know much about Furman, they should know that the Paladins are no early-season cupcake. Furman went 10-3 last season, winning the Southern Conference and advancing to the FCS quarterfinals.

Fearless Paladins
Furman has lost eight straight against FBS teams and nine straight against the SEC, but don't be fooled by the record. The Paladins went to South Carolina in Week 2 last year and immediately put the Gamecocks on the ropes, holding a touchdown lead until midway through the second quarter before the home team came roaring back with 40 unanswered points in a 47-21 final.

All Eyes on D-Line
Almost all the talk out of fall camp this year was centered around the Ole Miss defensive line. The Rebels added two of the top transfer portal prospects in Walter Nolen and Princely Umanmielen to the defensive front alongside Peach Bowl Defensive MVP Jared Ivey and Chucky Mullins Courage Award Winner JJ Pegues. How much of a difference will the star-studded group make in 2024?

Opportunities at Receiver
Lane Kiffin noted in his weekly press conference that Ole Miss is a bit banged up at wide receiver, which could affect the Week 1 depth chart and snap counts. That doesn't have quarterback Jaxson Dart phased one bit, and he said this week that he's excited to see what some of the younger receivers can do in a bigger role.
