Men’s Tennis Remains Undefeated on the Season After 6-1 Win Over Georgia Southern

OXFORD, Miss. - In Ole Miss men’s tennis’ second match of the weekend, the Rebels defeated Georgia Southern, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center to remain undefeated on the season at 5-0.
The Rebel’s (5-0, 0-0 SEC) secured a lone doubles win, but ultimately dropped the doubles point to Georgia Southern (4-2, 0-0 SBC) despite forcing all three matches to a tie breaker. The freshman pair of Benjamin Martin and Matthieu Chambonniere stayed persistent and came out victorious over their opponents, 7-6, (7-1).
Marcel Kamrowski and Kai Milburn fought hard against the No. 54 Eagles duo of Pol de Castillo and Dimitris Paliouras. The Rebel pair stayed competitive and forced a tie breaker, but ultimately dropped the match, 7-6 (8-6).
In singles, Chambonniere squared off against Georgia Southern’s Julia Calac on court five. The Rebel dominated over his opponent, etching a 6-2, 6-3 win to earn his eleventh singles win of the year and to put the Rebels on the board.

On court six, Milburn faced Georgia Southern’s student-athlete, Matthew Mitchell. The Queenstown, New Zealand, native secured the first set in a close 7-5 match. The freshman continued to bring the heat in set two and earned a second set 6-2 win to capture the match point, putting the Rebels up by one point.

Playing Del Castillo, Loan Lestir found his groove early and notched a gritty 7-6, 6-3 win over his competitor to put the Rebels up, 3-1.
Court 1 saw a ranked matchup, as No. 123 Noah Schlagenhauf and No. 84 Paliouras dualed it out in an exciting two set match. Schlagenhauf stayed determined and came out victorious over the Eagles’ lone ranked player, 6-4, 6-4, to give the junior his second ranked win of the weekend, clinching the match for the Rebels.

Kamrowski had another stellar outing in his second appearance with the Rebels. The Gdansk, Poland, native notched his second singles win of the season over Georgia Southern’s James Williams, 6-2, 6-7 (0-7), 6-2. Isac Strömberg defeated his singles opponent as well in a competitive three set match, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, to earn the Rebels’ sixth and final point of the match.
Ole Miss will be back in two weeks, playing host to Belmont for a doubleheader event at 10:00 a.m. CT and 2:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, February 8 in Oxford, Miss. at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center.
