Men’s Tennis Improves Overall Record to 6-0 After Saturday Win Over Belmont
2/8/2025 | Men's Tennis
OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team remains undefeated on the season after taking down the Belmont Bruins, 5-2, at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
After securing the doubles point, the back courts led the way for another Ole Miss (6-0, 0-0 SEC) win over Belmont (2-5, 0-0 MVC), with courts three through six securing victories over their opponents in singles.
The upperclassmen duo of Noah Schlagenhauf and Isac Strömberg paved the way for the Rebels on the doubles court, earning a 6-4 dominant win over Belmont's pair of Esteben Ortiz and Stefan Vedovelli.
Benjamin Martin and Matthieu Chambonniere kept the momentum rolling on court two, securing a 6-3 victory over their opponents to clinch the doubles point for Ole Miss.
In singles, the freshmen found their groove early on courts four and six. Martin had a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win over Belmont's Esteban Ortiz to put the Rebels up 2-0 and to secure his second singles win of the 2025 season.
On court four, Loan Lestir made some noise, securing a 6-1 first set win over Belmont's student-athlete. The Lille, France, native continued to dominate the match by securing a 6-2 second set win, putting Ole Miss up 3-0.
Chambonniere stayed patient and came out victorious, 7-6, 7-5, over Stefan Vedovelli on court five, clinching the match for the Rebels. This win moved the freshman's singles record to a Rebel best 5-0 in the spring season.
Although the Rebels already secured the match, Ole Miss and Belmont continued to play out the rest of the singles courts.
Strömberg notched a 7-6, 6-3 win on court three over his opponent Charlie Robin to put the final point on the board for the Rebels, fashioning the final score, 5-2. This win advanced the Rebel's dual record to 6-0, as Ole Miss remains the only undefeated team in the SEC.
Ole Miss will be back in action at home on Friday, Feb. 14 against Nebraska at 5:00 p.m. CT and again on Sunday, Feb. 16 for a doubleheader against Alcorn State at 10:00 a.m. CT and 2:00 p.m. CT in Oxford.
