Men’s Tennis Narrowly Drops to Nebraska, 4-3

OXFORD, Miss – Despite multiple competitive matchups, Ole Miss men's tennis was defeated by Nebraska, 4-3, at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
The Rebels (6-1, 0-0 SEC) dropped their first dual match of the season to the Huskers (5-3, 0-0 Big 10) in an exciting contest with four different tiebreaker sets in singles.
After Nebraska clinched the 4-0 victory, Ole Miss earned their first point of the day when No. 101 Noah Schlagenhauf's opponent retired. The junior was leading the match, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 2-1, as he looked to complete the comeback after forcing a third set.
Matthieu Chambonniere put on an exciting show on court six, coming all the way back from being down 2-6 in the first set tiebreaker, to earning the advantage, 7-6 (9-7). The freshman ultimately secured his 14th singles win on the season, which ties with Schlagenhauf for most by all Rebels this year, in a three-set thriller, 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 6-3.
On court five, Benjamin Martin secured the final victory for the Rebels and the ninth singles win in his career after besting Leo Linquet, 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 10-8.
Ole Miss will be back in action this Sunday, Feb. 16 for a doubleheader against Alcorn State. The matches are set to begin at 1:00 p.m. CT and 6:00 p.m. CT at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center.
