Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Alabama A&M for Second Consecutive Big Win
11/7/2025 | Women's Basketball
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – It was a historic evening in Huntsville, as Cotie McMahon passed the 1,500-point mark for her overall career as she led No. 12/14 Ole Miss women’s basketball to an 84-45 win over Alabama A&M at the Alabama A&M Event Center.
The Rebels (2-0, 0-0 SEC) dominated the Bulldogs (1-1, 0-0 SWAC) in every facet of the game. Ole Miss’ 39-point victory was encapsulated by explosive offensive plays and shutdown defense which catapulted the Rebels to victory. With 84 points, Ole Miss has opened its season with two games of at least 80 points through its first two games for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
McMahon became the 15th Rebel to reach 1,500 points, finishing the evening with 20. Her total pushed her past Bianca Thomas for the 14th-most points by any Rebel, finishing the day with 1,517 total points in her overall career.

Christeen Iwuala had another solid game in the paint, finishing the day with 15 points and a team-leading seven rebounds. She began the day converting on her first five field goal attempts, the second time in her career doing so.
Eleven Rebels got the opportunity to play tonight, and all 11 scored at least two points. Unlike using deep shooting in the season opener against Norfolk State, Ole Miss used its length to bully Alabama A&M in the paint, scoring 40 points from close range. On the opposite end of the court, the Rebels rejected six Lady Bulldog shots, with Latasha Lattimore accounting for half of them on her own.

McMahon opened the game with her eyes set on reaching her milestone, attacking the rim consistently through the first half of quarter one. Just two minutes into the game, McMahon converted on a tough layup for point No. 1,500. Her score charged the Rebels to a 6-0 run early. After the Bulldogs began tightening the score, Kaitlin Peterson took over by draining a 3-pointer and converting a tough layup in back-to-back possessions.
The Rebels would hold the Bulldogs scoreless for the final 3-and-a-half minutes of the first, as Debreasha Powe knocked down a deep three to give the Rebels a 25-10 lead entering the second.
Lattimore began the second quarter with her 300th career field goal, a two-pointer from the paint after an offensive rebound. After the Bulldogs put points on the board for the first time in nearly five minutes, Iwuala would erase their momentum with a pair of layups in consecutive possessions. The Rebels continued the momentum after Lauren Jacobs converted on a fastbreak layup to put Ole Miss up by over 20, a lead which it wouldn’t let up. Another 6-0 scoring run for the Rebels put them in front, 39-18, by the end of the first half.
The Rebels took advantage of turnovers throughout the entire first half. Entering the second half, Ole Miss had capitalized on 20 points off turnovers. Oppositely, the Rebels had only given up five points off turnovers.

Powe opened the second half with a bang, draining a 3-pointer on the first attempt of the third. McMahon complemented Powe’s deep range bomb with one of her own a minute later. The Rebels dominated the Bulldog offense throughout the quarter, stifling them to zero points through the first four minutes of the half. While doing so, Ole Miss extended its lead to nearly 40 points by the end of the third with a 27-point performance in the quarter.
The Rebels made it a 40-point lead after a pair of free throws from Jayla Murray, her first points as a Rebel, early in the fourth. The Rebels slowed the offense to with less than five minutes remaining but continued to put up numbers. McMahon would electrify the Rebel bench with her final bucket of the game, a coast-to-coast driving layup through three defenders, converting it while being fouled.
