Postgame Quotes vs. The Citadel
11/8/2025 | Football
OLE MISS HEAD COACH LANE KIFFIN
Opening Statement:
"I was really pleased with how the starters played today. These games can be hard to get up for. Our guys came prepared, 35 to five on first downs. They really answered the challenge of coming out with the same energy regardless of the time, crowd, or network. I wish our backup offense would've played better but the backups defensively played well. Overall we had a very good day."
On what he saw from Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss:
"I challenged him to be really efficient today. Not stats wise but efficiency wise. I thought he played really well. We continue to want to throw the ball around and not run him as much to work on the timing with our receivers."
On Ole Miss RB Kewan Lacy's three touchdowns, tying the single season record:
"He's done a lot this year. Being just a true sophomore and in only 10 games this year accomplishing that achievement. Our offensive line has done a really good job this year and improved from the beginning of the season to now. He's an elite runner and probably would've had a few more today had we left him in."
On how a complete performance like today can help the team moving forward:
"These games don't always go like this, especially later in the year. Guys can come out flat. We played these guys back in 2005 and had to score 21 points in the second half to win the game. We talked a lot about playing to our standard and these guys went out there and executed that."
On the depth of players at offensive skill positions:
"We have a lot of depth at tight end. It's a great position to be in and it's better than we've ever had here. We really haven't had depth at a position like that really ever in general offensively."
OLE MISS TE CALEB ODOM
On his performance and the Ole Miss offense's performance:
"I think we definitely came out there and did what we were supposed to do. You know, we preached this all week at practice, just making sure that no matter what the level of competition is, we always come out playing our game. The competition is against us every weekend, so I think we did a great job of that, just executing on offense, especially on defense. It was a great win on offense overall."
On what the year has been like for him:
"It's been a great year collectively for the whole tight end room. We've been piggybacking off of each other, our specialties, what we do best. Obviously, you know, being behind a guy like Dae'Quan [Wright], it's crazy to watch the plays he makes and just stuff like that. I think he's a great mentor. I learn something new from him every day, whether it's blocking-wise, receiving-wise, stuff like that. I just think it's a blessing. This season has been great, though, so far. Just learning new stuff every day and getting better."
On redeeming himself with a touchdown:
"I mean, in a sport like this, you gotta have short-term memory loss. Obviously, the first one was bad, and came back. Luckily, Coach [Lane] Kiffin usually doesn't call the same play twice in a row, but he gave it to me again, so I said I couldn't mess up again. So, I had to execute that time and get in the end zone."
OLE MISS LB TYLER BANKS
On the feeling of seeing the whole team play well:
"It's an amazing feeling for sure. Just knowing all the hard work we put in and seeing it come to fruition is rewarding. We preach do your job every week. When it all comes together, it just feels really good."
On how it's been wearing Chucky Mullins's number:
"It's definitely an honor to say the least. It's a blessing being able to represent what that number truly means. What Chucky did for this university just having his number on my back each and every Saturday is something I don't take for granted. I just try to live up to the standard each and every snap."
On how the defense has gotten back on track since Georgia:
"We preach spot the ball mentality each and every snap and each and every snap in practice and definitely in the game. Just get back on track and refocus and realign what we have to do. That was nothing for us. That's all we preach here in the building, so it felt good to do that."
On the feeling in the locker room about being in the CFP picture:
"One game, day, and step at a time. That's all we are saying. Just stay focused on the task at hand. Let no outside factors affect anything that is going on in this building. That's all we have been doing, taking it one day, one practice at a time."
OLE MISS QB TRINIDAD CHAMBLISS
On his overall performance:
"I thought I played well. It was a good bounce back from last week. I wasn't efficient at all a week ago and knew this week I wanted to be very technical in my mechanics. I wanted to make sure that I was playing sharp no matter the opponent. It felt good to be better out there today."
On getting multiple tight ends into the mix offensively:
"We hate to see Dae'Quan [Wright] go down. I think he's going to be okay. But yeah, we have great depth in the tight end room. Trust all of my guys, you know. Caleb [Odom] is a great playmaker, and Trace [Bruckler] is a solid dude as well. So great to see those guys get out there and make plays."
On Ole Miss' rhythm at the end of the season:
"That's very important, especially where we are in the season, later on in the season, and that's when you want to be sharp and be in the same groove and just execute at a high level. Because after the regular season, then it's the postseason. Those are the games that really matter, and those are the games that you really want to win."
On the message from head coach Lane Kiffin going into this game:
"Each week I try to be as efficient as I can be. It was definitely crucial this week because I didn't play very well against South Carolina. I wanted to bounce back and have a better performance to help my team. The whole week I was mainly focused on that. Our entire offensive staff did a great job creating a game plan and I'm happy we were able to go out and execute."
THE CITADEL HEAD COACH MAURICE DRAYTON
Opening Statement:
"I thought our players fought hard. We saw some positives but just proud that they never quit. I believe we had some things come to life for us. It's one thing to do it in practice and hear your coach tell you why we signal on and off the field, why we stand in certain places in a time out. It came to life today because of the atmosphere we were in. Now going forward anytime we have these opportunities for teachable moments in practice I believe that these young men will buy in even more than they have already."
On how crucial it is for the defense not to give up chunk plays:
"Today and most of the season we haven't given up the big play. They did a great job of working the ball down the field. We need to tighten down the redzone defense better. Any time they are behind the sticks we have to take advantage of that."
On next steps for the offense continuing to find rhythm:
"Having belief in ourselves and knowing we can execute regardless of the opponent. That's a very good football team we just played. We just need to continue chipping away at the process we believe in."
