SERIES HISTORY
The Rebels and Bulldogs are set to face off for the first time ever.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Cedrick W. Baker has entered his first season at the helm of South Carolina State's women's basketball program. He joined SC State after spending 22 years at Savannah State. A new direction was warranted after the Bulldogs went 2-29 last season, claiming only one conference victory (against Delaware State).
Baker has ignited a spark in SC State's offensive output, as the team has dropped two games north of 100 points this season. The Bulldogs scored 102 points against Morris College and less than a week later, scored 108 against Trinity College. One of the best performers for SC State in those games was senior guard Mya Byrd, who scored 15 and 17 points in the games. Byrd is averaging 10.3 points and a team-leading 3.1 assists per game. She's good at taking care of the ball, holding the top assist-to-turnover ratio in the MEAC entering Sunday's game. Byrd is also SC State's best shooter, with a conference-leading mark of 21 threes made so far.
SC State's top scorer, however, is senior Shaunice Reed, who has 12.0 points per game, including back-to-back games of at least 20 points in November. Reed is also a capable defender, recording at least one steal in all but two games so far this season. She swiped a season-high six steals against Trinity.
On the glass, center Feliah Greer and guard Angie Juste-Jean are both averaging at least five rebounds per game. The Bulldogs are the second-best offensive rebounding team in the MEAC thanks to Greer and Juste-Jean's efforts, with them averaging 2.1 and 1.6 offensive boards per game, respectively. Junior center Heaven Harper also jumps on the offensive boards, boasting a 2.0 per game mark herself.
Iemyiah Harris has been a bright spot for SC State since being added to the lineup late in November. Despite playing in only five games to this point of the year, she's averaging 10.6 points per game, while being capable to contribute defensively. She's recorded three blocks, six steals and had games of seven and nine rebounds.
SC State is great at passing the rock, leading the MEAC in assists per game with 12.8. The Bulldogs are also pesky defenders, ranking top-50 nationally in steals per game (39th) and turnovers forced per game (28th).
GAMES AGAINST THE MID-EASTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
Ole Miss is relatively unfamiliar with the MEAC, having only faced four members of the eight-member conference. The Rebels are a perfect 6-0 in games against the MEAC, including 2-0 records against Delaware State and now Norfolk State, who Ole Miss opened the 2025-26 season against. This is the first time in Ole Miss women's basketball history that it's faced two members of the MEAC in the same season.
FIRST WIN OF THE WEEKEND
Returning to the win column, No. 17/16 Ole Miss women's basketball trounced Wofford, 86-52, Saturday afternoon at the SJB Pavilion in Oxford, Mississippi.
The Rebels were unstoppable off the glass, nearly doubling the Terriers rebound total. This, in large part came from a three-headed monster in Cotie McMahon (11), Latasha Lattimore (11) and Sira Thienou (12), who each reached double-digit rebounds for the day. It's the first time since Nov. 17, 2009, that three Rebels had more than 10 rebounds in a single game.
McMahon and Lattimore were also Ole Miss' top scorers for the day, contributing 24 and 18 points, respectively. McMahon secured her third consecutive game of at least 20 points, becoming the first Rebel since all-timer Marquesha Davis did so in the 2023-24 season. McMahon's 11 rebounds made it three double-doubles for the season and 13th of her career. Her double-digit point streak to begin 2025-26 remains intact, continuing to match Shandricka Sessom's start in 2015-16.
Lattimore's season high in points and rebounds helped her reach her first double-double of the season and 14th of her career. Thienou had a career-high and team-leading 12 rebounds, 10 of which coming from the defensive end of the court. Her and Lattimore had the two-best plus-minuses among all Rebels against the Terriers, helping Ole Miss score 26 and 30 while the pair was on the court, respectively.
Christeen Iwuala had another solid game, scoring 13 points and adding five rebounds. She surpassed the 600-mark in rebounds for her overall career. Jayla Murray was the other Rebel to have at least five rebounds against the Terriers, contributing six to the Rebels tally.
