Ole Miss Track & Field Wins Three Medals at Day Two of SEC Indoor
2/28/2025 | Track and Field
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Ole Miss track & field junior Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan repeated as SEC weight throw champion in dominant fashion, while two other Rebels claimed silver medals following stellar performances of their own to highlight Day Two of the 2025 SEC Indoor Championships on Friday.
Success began early with men's weight throw, where Robinson-O'Hagan – a Bowerman watch list member – claimed his second consecutive SEC weight throw title with authority. Robinson-O'Hagan dominated the field with a career-best heave of 24.35m/79-10.75 in the third round, which not only broke the SEC meet record, but ranks him No. 2 in SEC history, No. 12 in collegiate history and stands as the third time this season he has reset his own school record. Robinson O'Hagan bested second-place finisher Ruben Banks of Alabama by more than four feet.
"I'm not here to throw a huge PR, I am here to win," Robinson-O'Hagan said. "It's about winning at this time. You throw PR's during the regular season, that's when it happens on purpose. Here, it's all about winning."
After his performance today, Robinson-O'Hagan moved up to second in collegiate history in combined weight throw and indoor shot put distance, with his new combined total of 45.46m ranking behind only North Dakota State's Payton Otterdahl, who notched a total of 45.92m as a senior in 2019.
Today's win marked his sixth career SEC title (third indoors), and he currently owns a massive 74 SEC meet points in his Ole Miss career. One year after becoming the first in SEC history to ever sweep the men's weight and shot, Robinson-O'Hagan now has a chance to do so again tomorrow afternoon in the men's shot put – which he enters as the national leader at his career-best 21.11m/69-03.25.
"Tomorrow I'm coming in to throw," Robinson-O'Hagan said. "I have to throw tomorrow, especially after a good day like this."
Overall, the Rebel men went 5-for-5 on personal bests in the weight throw, claiming a whopping 17 points. Junior Bryson Smith finished fifth at a career-best at 22.06m/72-04.50 – becoming the second athlete in program history to break 22 meters behind Robinson-O'Hagan, improving upon his spot at No. 2 in Ole Miss history. Fellow junior Mason Hickel followed in sixth with a PR of 21.87m/71-9 to become the third 70-footer in Ole Miss history – also improving his spot at No. 3 in the record books.
Senior Costen Campion was 11th at a career-best 20.89m/68-06.50, moving him up to fifth in school history. Fellow senior Jake Dalton took 13th at a PR of 20.53m/67-04.25, placing him No. in the record books.
"That's how a meet is supposed to go," Robinson-O'Hagan said. "We all hit our throws in different rounds, we all came here to compete. We knew that we were the best team in this building, we got the points we needed, we did what we were supposed to do."
In the women's weight throw, sophomore Skylar Soli won her first career SEC medal following an impressive performance.
Soli came out swinging with her first throw at 21.36m/70-1, which was a career-best at the time. Then Soli clinched her spot in the final, briefly taking the lead on her third-round throw of 21.74m/71-4, which ranks fifth in Ole Miss history. Kentucky's Kate Powers took the lead back for good in the fifth round on her winning toss of 22.13m/72-07.25, but no one else was able to move Soli out of the second spot on the podium.
Fellow sophomore Akaoma Odeluga finished fifth at 20.94m/68-08.50, giving the Ole Miss women 12 total meet points in the weight throw.
In the men's high jump, junior and Fulton, Mississippi native Arvesta Troupe won silver on a career-best leap of 2.22m/7-03.25, earning his first career SEC indoor medal and his second overall.
After clearing the first bar at 2.06m/6-9 on his third attempt, Troupe was clean over the next four bars – including that career-best of 2.22m/7-03.25. Troupe took three strong attempts at 2.25m/7-04.50 in what essentially turned into a jump-off with eventual champion Kyren Washington of Oklahoma, who was able to clear on his second attempt for the win.
Troupe's jump today improves upon his spot at third in school history and currently puts him into a tie for ninth nationally, greatly improving his chances of qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
On the track, senior Marcus Dropik secured his spot in Saturday's men's 800-meter final, finishing fifth overall and earning a time qualifier slot tonight at 1:49.37.
Ole Miss track & field returns for the third and final day of the conference championships on Saturday, beginning with the men's shot put at 2:30 p.m. CT. For more info and for details on how to follow along with the action at the 2025 SEC Indoor Championships, check out our meet preview HERE.
