No. 13 Baseball Drops Sunday Finale Against No. 3 Arkansas

The Rebels (15-4, 1-2 SEC) won Friday night 10-6, while the Razorbacks (18-2, 2-1 SEC) won Saturday 12-3.
After starter Mason Nichols took care of the Razorbacks in the top of the first inning, the Rebels scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning. After Hayden Federico walked, Luke Hill launched a home run to right for a 2-0 Ole Miss lead.
After Nichols continued to hold the Razorbacks scoreless, the Rebels added to their lead in the bottom of the third. After a one-out double to right center by Mitchell Sanford, Judd Utermark homered to right for a 4-0 UM lead.
Arkansas got a run in the top of the fourth, and after the Razorbacks tacked on another in the top of the fifth, Nichols' day was done. Walker Hooks came in to pitch with a runner on second, and a RBI single from Logan Maxwell got the Hogs on the board.
Arkansas added two runs in the top of the fifth, but it was a four-run sixth that gave the Razorbacks a 7-4 lead. Will Furniss got one back for the Rebels on a solo home run to center field and the score was 7-5 Arkansas through six.
After each team added a run, it was the bottom of the seventh that got Ole Miss back in it. Sanford solo homered to right. Utermark singled and Furniss walked. Fawley singled to score Utermark. Furniss scored on a Paino fielder's choice.
With the score 8-8 heading to the bottom of the eighth, Ole Miss took the lead on a Furniss single to score Sanford from first base as the home crowd erupted with cheers.
With the Rebels leading 9-8, reliever Conner Spencer, who had entered the game with one out in the seventh, got two outs in the top of the ninth. But that's when the Razorbacks struck for victory.
Charles Davalan singled through the right side to score one runner who had reached. Wehiwa Aloy gave Arkansas a 12-9 lead with a three-run home run to right.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Rebels failed to score, although with the tying run at the plate when the game ended.
Ole Miss had 10 hits to Arkansas' 16 in the game. The Rebels were led by Utermark's 3-for-5 day with two RBI and two runs scored.
Carson Wiggins, the Hogs' last pitcher of six on the day, was the winner. He's now 1-0 on the season. Rebel reliever Spencer got the loss and is 0-1.
Next up for Ole Miss is a 6 p.m. Tuesday game on March 18, in Pearl against Southern Mississippi.
