Track & Field Breaks Men’s 4x100-Meter Record, Wins 11 Events to Close Ole Miss Classic

3/21/2026 | Track and Field

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss track & field came away with 11 event wins, including a record-breaking performance in the men's 4x100-meter relay to close out the Ole Miss Classic at Prefontaine Stadium on Saturday.

The Rebel men broke the all-time Ole Miss record last May at the NCAA East Regional but wasted no time in setting the tone for the 2026 season, with the foursome of Dekell Minor, Jordan Urrutia, Wesley Todd and Tarique Wright opening the day at 38.98 to become the first sub-39 relay in program history.

Todd and Urrutia closed the day on the Rebel 4x400-meter relay, which ran the fastest time at Ole Miss since 1999. Todd, Carson Turner, Cade Flatt and Urrutia blazed to a season-opening 3:06.13, good for seventh-best ever at Ole Miss and helped greatly by a 46.1 third leg by Flatt and a 45.8 anchor by Urrutia.

In the men's discus, freshman Ashton Hearn immediately launched himself up the all-time lists, winning on a massive first performance of 58.12m/190-8 – already No. 2 in Ole Miss history. Hearn signed to Ole Miss as one of the top throwers nationally, finishing his high school career fourth in U.S. history in the junior discus at 202-3.

Hearn was also the runner-up in the shot put at 17.50m/57-5, finishing behind senior four-time NCAA Champion Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan, who took the title at 20.42m/67-0.

All-American junior Akaoma Odeluga was the runner-up in both women's editions of the shot and discus, taking second in the shot at 17.42m/57-2 while launching a career-best 49.54m/162-6 in the discus to move into eighth on the all-time list at Ole Miss.

Junior Kyle Johnson had a career day in the men's triple jump, leading a crew of three Rebels in the final to record wind-legal PRs. Johnson was the victor at 15.75m/51-08.25 (+1.6), which ties his outdoor PR and moves him to No. 13 in school history.

Other event wind came from Logan Kelley in the men's pole vault (5.26m/17-3), Carson Turner in the men's 800-meter (1:49.03), Addy Mitchell in the women's 1500-meter (4:40.11), Ella Johnson in the women's 3K (9:54.67), Marco Perez in the men's 3K (8:23.69) and the women's 4x100-meter relay of Royanah Farmer, Patchnalie Compere, Zion Lockette and Myla Reed (44.76).

Ole Miss track & field will take next week off before splitting squad for the Stanford Invite and LSU's Battle on the Bayou, both scheduled for April 3-4.
