Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach: Jaxson Hemby

3/5/2026 | Baseball

Kid Coach is a partnership between Children's of Mississippi and the Ole Miss Rebels to salute pediatric patients. Their inspirational stories remind us just how truly courageous these young people are.

This week's Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach is Jaxson Hemby of Brandon.

Born with a rare blood condition, Jaxson came to Children's of Mississippi Hospital at age two for surgery to remove his spleen to help manage the disease. Following surgery, Jaxson experienced life-threatening complications. He coded twice and required life support after developing sepsis. His care team helped him fight back during a scary two-week stay in critical condition in the pediatric intensive care unit.

"Through it all, the incredible medical team worked tirelessly to stabilize and save our little boy," his mom said. "Their expertise, compassion and dedication made all the difference in his recovery."

Now 12 years old, Jaxson sees his pediatric hematologist as needed and is doing great! He enjoys playing soccer and football, and he is a huge Ole Miss fan! In fact, Ole Miss is the ONLY college he is interested in!

Have fun at Friday's game, Jaxson. Your friends at Children's of Mississippi are cheering for you!
