McShea Pitches Ole Miss Past Georgia 9-1

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss starter Dan McShea worked a career-long seven-plus innings, allowing just one run on seven hits and two walks to lead the Rebels to a 9-1 win over Georgia in game two of their three-game Southeastern Conference series. Ole Miss leads the series 2-0 after winning 8-7 on Friday.
The win was Ole Miss' seventh straight, their longest winning streak since 1995, and improved the Rebels to 23-16 overall and 12-5 in the SEC. The victory also improved Ole Miss to 8-0 at home in SEC games this season.
Georgia dropped to 19-19 overall and 5-11 in the SEC.
McShea improved to 5-1 on the year with the victory.
Georgia starter Rob Moravek, 3-3, suffered the loss allowing four runs on five hits and three walks in five innings.
"Dan did an outstanding job out there today," said Ole Miss head coach Pat Harrison. "He got in to a little trouble early but he got better as the game went along, and so did the rest of the team."
Justin Huisman and Robert Shelton each recorded two hits to lead Ole Miss' 11-hit attack. Michael Rosamond went 1-for-3, hitting his 13th home run of the season with a solo shot to lead-off the sixth inning to make it 5-1.
Brad Henderson went 1-for-3 to move within two hits of tying Kevin Kessinger as Ole Miss' all-time hit leader.
Georgia took a 1-0 lead in the second on Mark Thornhill's RBI single to score Chris Crawford from third, who started the inning with a double.
The Rebels took the lead for good in the third, scoring two runs on Brad Henderson's sacrifice fly and Alex Williamson's RBI single.
Ole Miss broke the game open with two runs in the fifth and added two in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Saturday's win also clinched Ole Miss' fourth SEC series victory of the year, marking the first time the Rebels have won four conference series' since 1995. A win tomorrow would give the Rebels their third sweep of a SEC opponent in the same year since 1972.
A crowd of 4,187 watched Saturday's contest, the second-largest in the 11-year history of Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. The largest crowd ever to see a game at the stadium was in 1995 when 6,486 also watched the Rebels play Georgia.
