Box Score

Burlington, Vt. - Ole Miss senior guard Becky Myatt sank back-to-back three point baskets in the final minutes of the game to lead the Lady Rebels to a 85-75 win over the Vermont Lady Catamounts to claim the championship of the Howard Bank Classic.

"This was a great win for our young team," said Ole Miss head coach Ron Aldy. "We got into early foul trouble and had to play a lot of people. We had some players step up and that was important for us tonight. Becky Myatt and Von Kirk were outstanding tonight. Sherika Wright had some key baskets for us tonight as well. She gave us a spark from start to finish tonight."

Myatt, a senior from Bon Aqua, Tenn., was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. She scored 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting and 4-of-9 from three-point range. Von Kirk, a junior from Huntsville, Ala., was also named to the All-Tournament team.

Ole Miss (2-0) led at the half 50-34. The Lady Catamounts trimmed that lead to six points at the 4:29 mark of the second half. Myatt then sank back-to-back three pointers to preserve the Ole Miss victory.

"Myatt has been a leader for us for three years," Aldy said. "She has led this team and the team respects her so much. I don't know of any shots that were bigger than those two three- pointers she hit late in the game."

In addition to Myatt's 23 points, Von Kirk had 17 points and Sherika Wright had 16 points for the Lady Rebels. Tywanna Inmon chipped in nine points and Chandra Dorsey had eight points in the Lady Rebels victory.

Ole Miss shot 46.4 percent from the floor, while Vermont shot 43.3 percent. The Lady Rebels shot 78.1 percent from the charity stripe and shot 47.1 percent from three-point range. The Lady Catamounts were led by Rachel Bryan's 22 points and Aaron Yantzi chipped in 19 points.

The Lady Rebels will be back in action on Tuesday, when they host West Alabama in the home opener for Ole Miss. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Tad Smith Coliseum.
