OXFORD, Miss. - Junior left-hander Mike Gray gave Ole Miss 6 2/3 solid innings, and junior right-hander Michael Posey pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings off relief to lead the Rebels past Arkansas-Little Rock, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
The win gave Ole Miss a 2-1 weekend series victory over UALR.
Gray, a junior college transfer, held the Trojans to two runs, one earned, on four hits and two walks, and struck out eight in his Ole Miss debut.
Posey (1-0), a junior college transfer from Itawamba, allowed one hit and one walk in his stint to earn the win.
Josh Christian and Matt Tolbert recorded two hits apiece to lead Ole Miss as the Rebels out-hit UALR 9-5. Christian's infield RBI single in the seventh, to score Lance Jones, broke a 2-2 tie and proved to be the game-winner.
Ole Miss tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the eighth on a bases loaded RBI single by Kris Cox and a RBI ground out by Banks Robinson.
Paul Speer (0-1) was charged with the loss for the Trojans, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits and two walks in 2/3 of an inning of relief.
UALR starter Chris Hall worked five innings, allowing two runs on five hits and five walks, while striking out two.
Derin McMains gave UALR a 1-0 lead in the first with a solo home run.
Burney Hutchinson also homered for Ole Miss, hitting solo shot in the sixth to tie the game at 2-2.
Ole Miss will continue its nine-game season-opening homestand Tuesday when the Rebels host SE Louisiana at 3 p.m.
