Rebels Clip Golden Eagles To Snap Three-Game Losing Streak

OXFORD, Miss. - No. 16 Ole Miss scored four runs in the first inning en route to snapping a three-game losing streak with a 7-2 victory over in-state rival Southern Miss, in front of 1,991 Tuesday evening at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
Bryce Morrison went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a two-run double to highlight the four-run first. Drew Rogers was 2-for-4 at the plate and hit his third home run of the year with a two-run shot in the third that made it 6-2.
Senior right-hander Pete Montrenes started the game and worked two innings on a limited pitch to earn the win. He allowed two runs on three hits and struck out four to improve to 5-1 on the year.
The Rebels (14-6) used a total of six pitchers on the night, striking out a total of 12 and walking three while scattering nine hits.
Daniel Stewart (1-2) was charged with the loss for the Golden Eagles (14-6), allowing seven runs, six earned, on 12 hits and two walks over seven innings. He also struck out eight.
Griff Israel and Jarrett Hoffpauir recorded two hits each for Southern Miss.
The Rebels out-hit the Golden Eagles 12-9 on the evening.
Ole Miss will return to Southeastern Conference play this weekend when the Rebels host LSU in a three-game series beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Southern Miss will travel to New Orleans Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m., game before hosting Cincinnati in a three-game Conference USA set this weekend, starting Friday at 6:30 p.m.
