OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss managed just two hits against four Arkansas State pitchers as Indians defeated the Rebels 3-2 Tuesday evening at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

Senior right-hander John Anderson (1-3) pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings and was designated the pitcher of the record for the Indians.

Sophomore right-hander Blake Ring pitched the final two innings, allowing one run on one hit and two walks, and struck out two to earn his second save of the year.

Freshman left-hander Eric Fowler (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and two walks, and struck out a season-high seven in 5 2/3 innings.

Arkansas State jumped out on the Rebels 2-0 in the second inning, scoring both runs with two outs. Dusty Sexton's double scored Blake Denischuk, who reached on a lead-off single, to make it 1-0. After an Ole Miss error extended the inning, Neal Chambers beat out a bunt down the third base line that allowed Sexton to score from third.

The Indians added a run in the fifth when Matt Rogelstad scored off a double from Zach Shipley down the left field line to make it 3-0.

Ole Miss finally broke through in the sixth inning when Jonathan Swearingen scored on Stephen Head's ground out to short to make it 3-1. The Rebels pulled to within 3-2 in the eighth when Matt Tolbert tripled and then scored on a wild pitch.

Ole Miss threatened in the ninth when Bryce Morrison reached on a two-out error and Dustin Cliburn then walked to put runners on first and second. However, Ring would coax Charlie Waite to fly out to center to end the game.

Sexton was 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Indians at the plate.

In addition to Tolbert's triple, Ole Miss' only other hit of the night was Barry Gunther's two-out single in the fifth.

The Rebels will return to action Wednesday night with a 7 p.m., contest against the Memphis Tigers at AutoZone Park. Ole Miss will then open Southeastern Conference play Friday night against Kentucky in the opener of a three-game series. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
