No. 18 Ole Miss Sweeps Weekend Series From South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. - No. 18 (Baseball America) Ole Miss used a six-run sixth-inning to rally from a 9-5 deficit and sophomore Stephen Head pitched two scoreless innings of relief to earn the save as the Rebels swept a three-game series from South Alabama with a 13-11 victory Sunday afternoon, in front of 1,713 at Stanky Field.
With the win, the Rebels improved to 6-0 on the season, while the Jaguars fell to 1-6.
Ole Miss opened the sixth inning with five straight hits, including an RBI double by Alex Presley to score Charlie Babineaux and tie the game at 9-9. Following a sac bunt by Justin Brashear, Presley scored on an error by Jaguar shortstop Guillermo Martinez, off the bat of Cooper Osteen, to give the Rebels a 10-9 lead. Osteen would later score on a sacrifice fly by Seth Smith to make it 11-9.
Senior right-hander Jeremy Zick (1-0) earned the win in relief. He allowed two runs on two hits and one walk, and struck out one in 1 1/3 innings.
The save was the second of the year for Head.
Freshman left-hander Daniel Roberts (0-1) suffered the loss. He was charged with three runs, one earned, on three hits in 1 1/3 innings.
Ole Miss out-hit South Alabama 14-11 on the afternoon.
Head went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and senior SS Matt Tolbert was also 3-for-4 with an RBI. Head hit his third home run of the year with a three-run shot in the first inning to give the Rebels a 3-0 lead.
Jansen Rayborn went 2-for-5 with three RBIs to lead the Jaguars at the plate.
Michael Cart, Ben Froemming and Josh Touchstone all homered for South Alabama.
Ole Miss will next open a nine-game homestand Tuesday night when the Rebels begin a two-game midweek series with the Southeast Missouri State Indians at 6:30 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
