OXFORD, Miss. - No. 14 Auburn swept a pair of seven-inning contests in a Southeastern Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon, in front of 2,314 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. With the two victories, the Tigers (23-10, 5-6 SEC) handed the Rebels (26-5, 8-3 SEC) their first SEC series loss of the season.

Auburn won game one 2-1 and completed the sweep with a 3-2 win in the nightcap.

Ole Miss will return to action Tuesday night against Mississippi State in the 25th annual Mayor's Trophy game in Jackson, Miss. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., at Smith-Wills Stadium.

GAME 1: AUBURN 2, OLE MISS 1
Ben Maitland delivered an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning and Steven Register retired the Rebels in order in the bottom of the inning to lift the Tigers to a 2-1 win in game one.

Derek Sain singled to open the seventh and advanced to second on Mike Hyntka's sacrifice bunt. Maitland then lined a 1-1 pitch from Stephen Head into right center to plate the go-ahead run.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the fifth on Chuck Jeroloman's RBI single to score Maitland, who reached on a one-out double.

Ole Miss tied the game in the sixth. Cooper Osteen walked and advanced to second on Matt Tolbert's sac bunt. After Stephen Head was retired on an infield fly, Seth Smith was walked and starter Josh Bell was lifted for Register. Brian Pettway then singled to right to score Osteen and tie the game.

Register and Bell combined to limit the Rebels to just two hits.

Bell was charged with one run on one hit and four walks, and struck out three in 5.2 innings in taking a no decision.

Register (6-0) allowed one hit and struck out one in 1.1 innings of relief to earn the win.

Head (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season and had a personal seven-game win streak, dating back to last season, snapped. He was charged with two runs on eight hits and one walk, while striking out three in 6.2 innings.

Jeroloman, Maitland and Derek Sain all recorded two hits each to pace the Tigers' nine-hit attack.

GAME 2: AUBURN 3, OLE MISS 2
Chuck Jeroloman hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to lift Auburn to a 3-2 win over Ole Miss and complete the sweep of Sunday's doubleheader.

Charlie Babineaux gave Ole Miss a 2-1 lead in the fourth with a lead-off home run in the fourth inning, his seventh of the season.

Brian Pettway came on in relief of starter Eric Fowler in the seventh inning, and Mike Hnytka started the inning with a single. Ben Maitland then popped out to first in an attempt lay down a sac bunt and Pettway coaxed Sean Gamble to fly out to left for the second out the inning. Jeroloman then hit the first offering from Pettway over the wall in left center to put the Tigers up 3-2. The home run was Jeroloman's fifth of the year.

Steven Register then came on in the bottom of the seventh close out the win, though, the Rebels put the tying run on second. Matt Tolbert and Stephen Head hit back-to-back two-out singles, but Register forced Pettway to hit into a fielder's choice to end the game.

Junior left-hander Arnold Hughey (5-1) worked six innings to earn the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits and one walk, while striking out two.

Register earned his seventh save of the year.

Pettway (0-2) was charged with the loss, allowing two runs on two hits in an inning of work.

Chris Coghlan and Pettway both went 2-for-3 as Ole Miss out-hit Auburn 8-7.

Jeroloman was 3-for-4 in the nightcap.
