NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Ole Miss men's golf team wrapped up play Tuesday in a fifth-place tie at the NOKIA Sugar Bowl/Tulane Invitational, which was held at the English Turn Golf and Country Club.

The team registered a three-round score of 305-295-297=897, which was just four strokes behind tournament co-leaders Notre Dame and UNC-Wilmington. Notre Dame defeated UNC-Wilmington in a playoff hole.

"We didn't have a great day today," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. "There were some tough conditions. (English Turn) is a penalizing course to begin with, and add some cold temperatures and wind, and it makes it really tough. We hit a lot of shots in the wrong places."

Senior Jordan Dempsey (73-75-68=216) enjoyed another strong individual performance, firing a four-under-par 68 Tuesday to tie for second for the tournament.

"I'm very pleased with the play of Jordan Dempsey. It was another great tournament for him. He's shot even (par) or better all seven tournaments for us this year."

Dempsey's third-round 68 was one stroke off of his season-high of 67, which he has fired three times this season, most recently at his tie for first at the All-South Collegiate.

The Rebels concluded the first two rounds on Monday in third place in a tight pack at the top of the leaderboard. The final day was more of the same, as the top six teams were all within four shots of each other.

Sophomore Kyle Ellis (77-70-74=221) tied for fifth, making this the second straight tournament that both Dempsey and Ellis have grabbed top-five honors.

Other Rebel scores included sophomore Chris Rogers (79-74-76=229), sophomore Callum Macaulay (78-76-79=233) and junior Adam Swope (77-76-81=234).

The Rebels go right back to work Sunday at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Fla., in the three-day invitational.
