Rebels' Kline Named To Clemens Award Watch List

Kline helped lead the Rebels to the 2006 Southeastern Conference Tournament Championship a year ago and helped Ole Miss host its third-straight NCAA Regional and second consecutive NCAA Super Regional. The Rebels posted a 44-22 record, marking the first back-to-back 40 win seasons in program history and the second most wins in a single season-ever.
“We’re very excited for Will Kline to be considered for this award and it is certainly one for which he is worthy of being nominated,” Ole miss head coach Mike Bianco said. “Will is a tremendous pitcher who was a big part of what we were able to do last season. He is definitely among the top pitchers in the Southeastern Conference and in the nation.”
Kline went 5-2 on the season with three saves as he posted a 3.71 ERA after moving to the starting rotation from the bullpen. The right-handed hurler struck out 76 batters while only walking 22 on the year. Kline was a key for the Rebels in a stretch run to the post-season as he posted a shutout over then No. 10 Mississippi State in the Mayor’s Trophy game and picked up wins over
Kline also picked up a save at No. 7 South Carolina, over LSU and over Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament Championship game.
The finalists for the 2007 Roger Clemens Award will be selected in voting by a national panel that includes: all Division I head baseball coaches, a selection of national media who cover collegiate baseball, and the 16 winners of the R.E. “Bob” Smith Award, which was presented to the top player in the country in Houston from 1988-2003. In addition, the 10 previous finalists for the Clemens Award are also issued ballots. The 2007 Award is the only award of its kind, honoring the finest pitchers in college baseball.
