Howarth Leads Rebels To Sixth-Place Finish

ORLANDO, Fla. - Sophomore Jamie Howarth carded a 73-72-76221 to finish in a tie for eighth place in the individual standings and lead Ole Miss to a sixth place finish in the 18-team UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon. The eighth-place finish marked Howarths second Top 10 career finish. He finished second during the fall season at the Magnolia Cup.
"We were a little disappointed we didn't finish better," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. "The weather got better the last two rounds and we didn't take advantage of the better conditions.
"I am very pleased with Jamie Howarth's play. He had a good tournament and actually had a chance to win it going into the last nine holes."
Lamar took home the team title after posting a 296-293-288--887, led by the first place individual finish of Casey Clendenon. Clendenon took home top honors with his 71-71-69--211. Southern Miss took home second place followed by UT-Arlington, Louisville and Central Florida followed by the Rebels. Ole Miss tallied a 297-301-301--899 to finish 22 strokes behind the leaders.
A trio of Ole Miss juniors followed Howarth for Ole Miss. Kyle Ellis finished in a tie for 13th place with his three-round total of 74-74-74--222. Brice Bailey and Callum Macaulay tied for 52nd place. Bailey carded a 75-80-74--229, while Macaulay turned in a 75-77-77--229. Rounding out the scoring for Ole Miss was sophomore David Marino with a 80-78-80--238. Marino finished in a tie for 83rd.
The Rebels will take a few weeks off before returning to the links on March 3-5 at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Fla.
