Bittle Named Academic All-District First Team

OXFORD, Miss. Senior right-hander Scott Bittle was named to the ESPN:The Magazine and College Sports Information Director’s of America Academic All-District First Team, the organization announced Thursday evening.

 

Bittle has been a leader in the classroom as much as on the playing field as the senior holds a 3.34 GPA while majoring in Psychology. The Texarkana, Texas, native has repeatedly been named to the many UMAA honor rolls and the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

 

Bittle is also active in the Ole Miss and Oxford community as he has participated in the Jean Jones Walk, Reading With The Rebels, visits to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis and other community outreach opportunities.

 

This season, Bittle has been stellar for the Rebels as he has transitioned from the role of a closer into starting on the weekends. As a Sunday starter in SEC play, Bittle has posted a 4-0 record with a 1.29 ERA and a .153 opposing batting average. He has pitched the Rebels to wins over Kentucky, South Carolina, at No. 20 Florida and No. 1 Georgia. His win over Kentucky was a complete-game shutout with a career-high 13 strikeouts and no walks.

 

To be nominated for the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, student-athletes must a minimum 3.30 grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games (exception in baseball and softball, pitchers must have at least 10.0 innings pitched. Student-Athletes must have completed at least one full calendar year at his/her current institution and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.

 

CoSIDA members vote on the all-district teams.  SEC institutions encompass three districts.  Members of the all-district first-team are placed on the ballot for Academic All-America.  The CoSIDA Academic All-America program is sponsored by ESPN The Magazine.
