Joe David Leads Rebels In Second Round At Carpet Capital

DALTON, Ga. - Junior Joe David shot a 3-under 69 on Saturday in the second round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate to pace the Ole Miss men's golf team to a 2-under 286, a huge improvement over Friday's first round (311).
David (Madison, Tenn.) carded six birdies on the day, including three of the last four holes to jump up to a tie for 18th in the standings.
Sophomore Chad Bounds rebounded from his opening round 79 to shoot 1-under 71. He birdied 15 and 16 to get there. Both sophomore Pete Kellermann and junior Billy Brozovich posted better scores (73) in the second round, compared to the 81 they shot in the first round.
Senior All-American Jonathan Randolph struggled for the second day in a row. He was 5-over heading to the back nine, but an eagle and birdie on 12 and 13 got him back to +2 before a bogey on 15 left him with another 75.
"After a disastrous first round, it was good to come back and shoot under par," head coach Ernest Ross said. "I know we can play with the best teams in America. We are working hard to be more consistent. We need to another good round tomorrow."
Clemson shot 283 and leads by one-shot lead (566) over Alabama (567), who carded a 287 in the second round. Georgia Tech is third at 571, Georgia stands in fourth at 572, and Wake Forest rounds out the top five at 573.
Play concludes Saturday with the final round.
