Thornberry Looks to Three-Peat
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Ole Miss men's golf team travels to Nashville for the Intercollegiate at The Grove (Oct. 7-9). The three-day event will take place at The Grove Club, which will be playing 7,368 yards and par 72.
The 13-team field consists of the host team Middle Tennessee, Charleston, Cincinnati, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Liberty, Louisiana Tech, Louisville, Memphis, Purdue, South Dakota State, South Florida and Ole Miss.
Head coach Chris Malloy will be bringing eight Rebels to compete at the event. Braden Thornberry will be in the No. 1 position followed by Cecil Wegener, Jackson Suber, Josh Seiple and Charlie Miller. Beau Briggs, Jack Gnam, and Sarut Vongchaisit will compete as individuals.
This marks the third week in a row the Rebels will compete. Ole Miss claimed fourth place finishes at Shoal Creek (Sept. 24-25) and Erin Hills (Sept. 30-Oct. 2).
Braden Thornberry feels right at home at The Grove. The senior will look to three-peat as champion this week. Last year, the Olive Branch, Mississippi, native went 73-66-70--209 (+7) that set a new 54-hole record for the tournament.
The Rebels as a team finished in second, eight strokes back of first place Georgia Tech.
Thornberry, Wegener and Suber headline the Ole Miss lineup, while Beau Briggs and Sarut Vongchaisit will make their season debuts. Vongchaisit, a freshman, will be competing for the first time as a Rebel.
The first round gets underway Saturday morning with tee times beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT. Ole Miss will be paired with Middle Tennessee State and Louisville.
