Rebels to Play Second Event This Week
JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – The No. 34 Ole Miss men's golf team begins its second event this week when they head to the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate (Oct. 11-13) in Jonesborough.
The 22nd running of the tournament will take place at the Blackthorn Club at The Ridges, which will be playing 7,147 yards and par 72.
The Rebels will compete against the host school, No. 29 East Tennessee State, No. 8 Louisville, No. 23 Tennessee, No. 31 Penn State, No. 38 Missouri, No. 47 NC State, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Furman, UNC Wilmington, VCU, Villanova, Virginia Tech, and Virginia.
"We have a lot of positives to build on from our last tournament," head coach Chris Malloy said. "We had some excellent rounds from underclassmen. We just need to limit the little mistakes and we'll be in good shape this week. It's a different kind of golf course, birdies will be at a premium. We're ready to get back out there and compete."
The top- four lineup remains unchanged from the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate earlier in the week. Jackson Suber will be in the No. 1 position, followed by Sarut Vongchaisit, Jack Gnam, Veeti Mahonen and Chip Getz. Brody Blackmon will play as an individual.
Suber is coming off a top-15 finish at Old Overton Club, where he shot a career-low tying 65 in the second round. The sophomore leads the team in birdies with 41 over nine rounds this season and ranks seventh in the conference in stroke average (69.78).
Vongchaisit carded a career-low 65 in the first round at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate earlier this week, his fifth round par-or-better this season. The sophomore has been in the Rebels' top three in every event this season.
Mahonen jumps to the three spot after leading the Rebels on the final day in Alabama with a career-low 3-under 67.
Gnam has appeared in each lineup this fall and is coming off a top-30 finish at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.
Chip Getz rounds out the starting five for Ole Miss, making his third appearance of the fall.
The first round begins Friday morning with tee times for Ole Miss beginning at 8:15 a.m CT. The Rebels will be paired with East Tennessee State and Tennessee.
