Rebels to Compete Against Five Ranked Teams at San Diego C.C.

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The No. 48 Ole Miss men's golf team heads to California for the Lamkin San Diego Classic, starting Monday morning. This will be the third time in as many years the Rebels will compete at the event, a streak that began with winning the 2017 tournament.

The Rebels will tee it up against five ranked teams at San Diego Country Club, including No. 8 Texas, No. 9 Arizona State, No. 31 North Carolina, No. 49 Saint Mary's, No. 50 Arizona. Air Force, Colorado, Colorado State, Louisiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, San Diego, San Diego State and Washington will also hit the par 72 course measuring 7,033 yards.

Head coach Chris Malloy is bringing six Rebels to compete at the event. Beau Briggs will be in the No. 1 position, followed by Jackson Suber, Sarut Vongchaisit, Cecil Wegener, and Josh Seiple. Brody Blackmon will compete as an individual.

"We are excited to get to San Diego and jump right back into tournament play," said head coach Chris Malloy. "We have a lot of positives to build on from last week's event, so that should only help us. Our guys love this course, and we have played well here the last two years."

Briggs holds the No. 1 spot for the first time in his Ole Miss career, leading the Rebels with a 70.36 stroke average. The senior is coming off a top-10 finish at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate, shooting par-or-better in all three rounds (69-70-71—210).

Suber sees himself in the lineup for the sixth time this year out of seven events and is second on the team in stroke average (72.32), while also having a pair of top-five finishes to his credit.

Vongchaisit, the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week after his performance at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate, is third in the lineup after posting the second-best 54-hole total on the team last week (71-72-76—219). The Bangkok, Thailand, native, paced the field in par-3 scoring (-2) down in Mexico.

Seiple and Cecil Wegener join Briggs as the Rebels who have played at the event before. Wegener tied for 22nd last year (73-72-72—217), helping Ole Miss place fourth. In 2017, Seiple put together a top-20 finish (72-74-69—214) as Ole Miss took the team title by going 16-under (286-289-273—848). Current Rebel pro Ben Wolcott earned medalist honors with a 9-under 207 (70-70-67—207).

The first round begins Monday morning with a 10:30 a.m. CT shotgun start and continuous play for 36 holes. Live scoring will be available through Golfstat.com.
