Rebels Shoot Final Round 293 to Finish Seventh

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The No. 48 Ole Miss men's golf team finished the Lamkin San Diego Classic Tuesday afternoon in Chula Vista, California. The Rebels tied for 7th as a team at 14-over (297-288-293—878), while Josh Seiple picked up a top-10 finish.

Ole Miss shot a 5-over 293 in the final round to stay in the top 10 as a team. No. 5 Arizona State took home the team title at 10-under followed by No. 8 Texas. The Rebels were fifth in the field in total birdies with 48.

"We got off to an incredibly bad start and did a good job of rallying coming down the stretch to salvage our round," said head coach Chris Malloy. "We got exposed this week by some tough greens and conditions."

Josh Seiple put together a top-10 performance after a final round 71 (-1) to finish his tournament at even par (71-74-71—216). Seiple was first on the team, third among the field in pars with 37 and went bogey-free on his last 11 holes. The senior played the final stretch 4-under with a quartet of birdies on the back nine, getting him back to level par for the fourth top-10 finish of his career.

Sarut Vongchaisit tied for 20th (72-75-72—219). The reigning SEC Freshman of the Week was second on the team with 11 birdies, recording five of them during his final round 72 (E).

Cecil Wegener bounced back for a top-40 finish after an opening round 6-over 78. The sophomore went 78-70-75—223 and led the team in birdies with 12.

Beau Briggs had the low round for the Rebels with a second round 3-under 69. The senior shot 82-69-77—228 and finished tied for 64th.

Jackson Suber went 1-under on the last 10 holes with four birdies, and tying for 64th alongside Briggs at 12-over (76-77-75—228). The freshman ended the tournament with three birdies over the final five holes.

"Hopefully we are able to learn from this and be better from it. We have a little time off before our next event, so we have some time to regroup and be better prepared for it," said Malloy.

The Rebels return to the course March 24-26, when they defend their title at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Charleston, South Carolina.
