Men’s Golf Set To Defend Title at Hootie at Bulls Bay

Rebels Will Tee It Up Against 6 Ranked Teams in Charleston
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The No. 48 Ole Miss men's golf team heads to Charleston to defend their team title at the Hootie at Bulls Bay beginning on Sunday.
The three-day, 54-hole event will take place at Bulls Bay Golf Club, which will be playing 7,220 yards and par 72.
Ole Miss will tee it up against 14 other teams, including six ranked in Golfstat's top-50. The field is highlighted by No. 4 Duke and includes No. 20 South Carolina, Kentucky and Missouri joining Ole Miss in representing the Southeastern Conference.
Head coach Chris Malloy is bringing five Rebels to compete at the event. Josh Seiple will be in the No. 1 position, followed by Sarut Vongchaisit, Cecil Wegener, Beau Briggs, and Jackson Suber.
The Rebels come into the event as the defending champions. Ole Miss entered the final day last year trailing by six strokes and fired a school record 19-under 269 to claim the title, while Braden Thornberry claimed the individual title.
"It was good to get some rest after four straight weeks on the road," Malloy said. "I know that our guys are fired up to get to Bulls Bay. We won here last year and have some good vibes around this place."
Seiple will hold the No. 1 spot for Ole Miss for the first time in his career. The senior is coming off a top-10 finish in San Diego where he was first on the team, third among the field in pars with 37 and went bogey-free on his last 11 holes on the final day. Seiple finished tied for 8th last year at the Hootie at Bulls Bay, firing a final round 4-under 68 thanks to a pair of eagles on the front nine.
Vongchaisit comes into the tournament as the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week, an award he has captured back-to-back weeks after his top-20 finish in San Diego. The freshman was one stroke away from tying his low 54-hole score as a Rebel, and sees himself in the top-two of the lineup for the first time in his career this weekend.
Wegener joined Seiple last year at the event in the top-10 individually. The sophomore shot a then career-low 5-under 67 that featured six birdies and just one bogey to finish tied for 10th.
Briggs joins Seiple and Wegener as the Rebels who have competed at Bulls Bay before. The senior leads the team in stroke average (71.57) and top-five finishes (2) this season.
Suber rounds out the starting five for Ole Miss. The freshman has appeared in every event this season, including seven starts.
The first round begins Sunday morning with tee times beginning at 9 a.m. CT off tees No. 1 and 10. Live scoring will be available through BirdieFire.com.
