Day Two of the Joe Walker Invite Was Canceled Halfway Through Due to Lightning
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss track & field put together solid performances and won several event titles before Day Two of the Joe Walker Invite was cancelled due to prolonged lightning delays at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex on Saturday.
Ole Miss added its first victory of the day in the women's discus. Freshman Tedreauna Britt, the season-leader in the event for the Rebels, finished first with a throw of 47.47m (155-09). Sophomore Shey Taiwo, who won the event last week at the Spec Towns Invite at Georgia, placed second at 45.65m (149-09). Sophomore Leah Klein rounded out the Rebel lineup with a sixth-place finish at 40.89m (134-02).
The Rebels put together two more victories in the 4x100-meter relays. The women's team, consisting of Kelly Rowe, Jayda Eckford, Kaira Simmons and Brandee Presley, cruised to a two-second victory at 44.78. The men's team of Andrew Raspo, Jaqaun Webb, Kenney Broadnax and Elijah Dryer also finished first with a time of 40.96. That time was good for second, but first-place Troy was later disqualified for a zone violation.
Before the first lightning delay, sophomore Ghania Warren also had the best meet of her collegiate career. Competing in the high jump, she finished in first place and set a PR at 1.70m (5-07.00), which ranks tied for ninth in school history.
Ole Miss opened the day by honoring 11 members of its senior class: Anna Braswell, Shelby Brown, Julia England, Alex Enright, Fraquan Gaines, Derek Gutierrez, Annika Larsson, Lindsey Murray, Mark Robertson, Christian Yancey and manager Aaron Burnside.
The Rebels return to action next week when they split squad for both the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invite in southern California, and for the War Eagle Invite at Auburn.
