Teams Needed to Have Multiyear APR Scores in the Top-10 Percent Nationally

INDIANAPOLIS – Five Ole Miss teams – men's basketball, men's golf, women's golf, men's tennis and women's tennis – each have been honored with the NCAA Public Recognition Award, the NCAA announced Wednesday.

Based on their most recent multiyear Academic Progress Rate, these teams have earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for posting scores in the top-10 percent of their sport. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally.

This year marks the fourth straight season that the Rebel women's tennis team has earned the Public Recognition Award, as well as the seventh time overall. Junior Cameron Kriscunas was recently named as a Third-Team Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar, while senior Tea Jandric was named Second-Team All-SEC.

The Rebel men's golf team earned the honor for the third consecutive season. Senior Beau Briggs was named the Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the Rebels Choice Awards this year, and he was also the Ole Miss men's nominee for the SEC Boyd H. McWhorter Scholarship.

Ole Miss men's basketball put together a superb first season under head coach Kermit Davis, punching its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015. Both the Rebel men's tennis and women's golf teams are currently in NCAA postseason competition as well, with the men set to begin play in its 26th consecutive NCAA Tournament in Los Angeles this week, while the Rebel women's golf team opens at the NCAA Regional in Norman next week following a magical run at the SEC Championship that ended with the first conference title in program history.

Largely as a result of an increase in perfect scores, teams earning Public Recognition Awards increased to 1,328, up by 44 from the previous academic year. APRs for programs in the top 10 percent ranged from 987 to a perfect 1,000, and the number of teams posting perfect scores increased to 1,214, marking an increase of 26 teams from last year.

APR scores for all Division I teams will be released May 8. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the ongoing academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.

The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years.
