The Rebels Face the Nanooks in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday

OXFORD, Miss. After the annual midseason break, the No. 6 Ole Miss rifle team begins the second half of its schedule with a nonconference dual against No. 14 Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio, beginning at 8 a.m. CT.

The Rebels will look to carry over its momentum from 2019 and compete for the first time as a team in seven weeks. No. 3 Kentucky will also post individual scores in Columbus, but will not count against Ole Miss as the two programs have already faced off in a GARC match earlier this season.

FINDING BIG SUCCESS AGAINST ALASKA
Each of the last two matches against the Nanooks have been highly successful for the Rebels. On Jan. 19, 2018 the Rebels made the 3,200-mile journey to Fairbanks and posted the highest total in program history with 4687 points. Then-freshman Buesseler propelled the Rebels with a 594 in air rifle. Last January Ole Miss opened up the season's second half at Columbus and came away victorious over host Ohio State and then-No. 6 UAF. Buesseler was the top overall shooter (583-592-1175) in the tri-match.

STAYING SHARP AT WINTER AIRGUN
Buesseler (35th), O'Neel (44th), sophomore Jillian Zakrzeski (47th, 1228.5), and junior Kamilla Kisch (59th) competed against the nation's best at the 2019 Winter Airgun Championships in early December. All three finished in the top 60 of 215 total competitors. Rebel alum Ali Weisz finished second to earn the Silver Medal in the event which doubled as Part I of the Olympic Trials for air rifle.

GARC TOUGH
The Great America Rifle Conference is proving to be the deepest conference in the country as all nine of its members are ranked No. 11 or better in the latest College Rifle Coaches Association Top 20 poll. Only No. 1 TCU and No. 5 Air Force represent a separate league (Patriot Rifle Conference).

TOP 10 ALL DAY
This season the Rebels have not fallen outside the Top 10 in the CRCA poll. Ole Miss has spent four weeks as high as No. 5, a new program best. The current and remaining rankings this season will be based off each team's top-three-score average across three locations.
