Walker Stearns to Make Ole Miss Debut in Pre Qualifying on Saturday

OXFORD, Miss. – All eight Ole Miss men's tennis student-athletes are set to compete in the ITA All-American Championships at the University of Tulsa beginning Saturday. All Rebels will compete in singles, one doubles team placed in the qualifying draw and one doubles team currently sits on the alternate qualifying list. The robust tournament at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa will run from Oct. 2-10.

All eight Ole Miss men's tennis players will have the opportunity to claim the ITA All-American Championships singles title. The large singles draw includes 418 student-athletes in total and features a Pre Qualifying, Qualifying and Main Draw. Rebels Finn Reynolds and Nikola Slavic are among 48 players to earn automatic qualifiers into the main draw. Only 16 qualifiers advance from the 256-participant Pre Qualifying draw to the Qualifying Draw and 16 victors from the 128-participant Qualifying draw will complete the 64-participant Main Draw.

Doubles at the All-American Championship includes a 64-team Qualifying Draw and 32 Team Main Draw. Eight teams from qualifiers advance to the Main Draw. Rebels Finn Reynolds and John Hallquist Lithén are set to compete in Qualifying Doubles.

ITA Preseason No. 11 Reynolds and No. 21 Nikola Slavic will need to win seven individual matches to be crowned champions. Reynolds, an All-American last season in both singles and doubles, competed in the NCAA Singles Championships in May as a top-16 seed and was the top-overall seed in doubles and advanced past the opening round in each discipline. Reynolds also represented his home nation, New Zealand, for a Davis Cup qualifying match versus South Korea this fall. Slavic reached the Round of 64 of the NCAA Singles Championships in 2020 after earning an at-large bid. Slavic won 14 of 22 singles matches in 2021-22.

Freshman Walker Stearns will be the first Rebel to compete this fall on Saturday in the Pre Qualifying Draw on Friday. Stearns, a Germantown Tennessee native, was the 2019 and 2021 TSSAA Div. II-A Singles Champion at St. Georges Independent School.

An Ole Miss player will look to be the first to win the event since Catalin Gard claimed the men's title in 2004.
