Jakob Cadonau also Wins Consolation Title of Red Singles Draw
ATHENS, Ga. – Ole Miss put forth a strong showing this weekend at the Bulldog Invite hosted at Gerogia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Rebels Lukas Engelhardt and Jakob Cadonau won the Red Doubles Draw and Cadonau also won the consolation section of the Red Singles Draw at the event concluding on Sunday.
The Bulldog Invite divided players from around the nation among four tiers of singles draws and three tiers of doubles draws. Cadonau and Engelhardt won all three doubles matches to claim the Red Draw Doubles Title. The Red Draw was the second-tier level of doubles at the event.
Cadonau and Engelhardt made their season doubles debut count this weekend, winning a match on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Rebel duo won all three matches by the score of 8-6 (event utilized eight game pro-set scoring in doubles). Cadonau and Engelhardt defeated Davide Innocenti and Bekhzod Rasamatov of UNC-Wilmington in the Red Draw Final on Sunday morning. Innocenti and Rasamatov were both members of the Seahawks' CAA Championship winning team last spring.
Cadonau and Engelhardt are currently projected to play as the Rebels' No. 3 doubles team this season after featuring prominently at the position last year. Cadonau and Engelhardt notably earned the clinching doubles victory at home in the Rebels' 4-0 win versus Tulane in the NCAA Team Championships Round of 32 on May 9, 2021.
Cadonau won three of four matches in the Red Draw, the second-tier of singles at the Georgia Invite. He won his first two matches before falling to UNC-Charlotte's Coy Simon in three sets on Saturday. Cadonau rebounded to defeat Georgia's Britton Johnston, 7-5, 6-4, on Saturday to win the consolation section of the draw. Cadonau improved to 4-2 overall this season in singles.
Engelhardt competed in the top-flight Magill Draw, falling in the first round and pulling-out of the remainder of singles competition due to injury on Saturday. Engelhardt continued to play doubles on both Saturday and Sunday.
Walker Stearns competed in the four-participant round robin Silver Draw at the event. Stearns placed third in the draw with one win and two losses.
