Men’s Tennis Prepares for ITA Southern Regionals

All Rebels to Compete in Both Singles and Doubles
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss men's tennis is set to compete at the ITA Southern Championships hosted by Auburn at the Yarbrough Tennis Center starting Thursday, Oct. 12, and concluding with the championship matches on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
The yearly regional championships will take place for the first time since 2019 after the 2020 event was called-off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The individual event will feature student-athletes from all teams in the ITA Southern Region. Winning a regional ITA Championship ensures automatic placement in the ITA Fall National Championships (Nov. 4-7 in San Diego).
The men's ITA Southern Championships will feature a 32-participant main singles draw with 24 direct acceptances and eight qualifiers. The eight qualifiers will be fed in from a 128-pariticipant qualifying draw. Doubles competition will feature a 64-team main draw with no qualifying. There will be consolation matches for both singles and doubles.
Singles scoring will consist of standard best of three set no-ad scoring. Doubles will play eight-game pro sets through the quarterfinals with best of three set matches in the semifinals and finals. There will be no live scoring or streaming of the event. Admission is free for all sessions.
Qualifying Singles will take place Thursday and Friday followed by the main draw of both singles and doubles beginning on Saturday.
Ole Miss players enter the tournament as the team to beat. The Rebels finished the 2021 season ranked first in the ITA Southern Region followed by Mississippi State and Tulane. ITA All-American Finn Reynolds ranked first in the region in both singles and doubles and currently ranks No. 11 in the nation in singles and No. 36 in doubles. Nikola Slavic ranked No. 4 in the region in singles at the conclusion of last season and currently ranks No. 21 in singles and No. 36 in doubles in the ITA Preseason Rankings. Reynolds recently reached the Round of 16 in both singles and doubles (partnering with John Hallquist Lithén) at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma concluding last Sunday.
Ole Miss student-athletes have won the regional championship eight times, three in singles and five in doubles. A Rebel will look to be the first to win a regional title since Zvonimir Babic and Filip Kraljevic won in doubles in 2017.
