FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ole Miss men's and women's track & field will look to keep improving with a shortened squad this weekend at Arkansas' John McDonnell Invitational, which begins Saturday morning. A live stream of the action will begin at 5 p.m. CT Saturday and noon Sunday on SEC Network+.
WOMEN'S NOTES
• Ole Miss enters the weekend ranked within the USTFCCCA's #EventSquad Top-10 in five different events on the women's side: hammer (1st), discus (3rd), shot put (5th), pole vault (6th) and the 1500-meter (10th).
• The Rebel throws squad will receive this weekend off, but stand as one of two schools with three women's hammer throwers at or beyond 200 feet, and one of two (alongside Cal) with multiple beyond 217 feet – Jasmine Mitchell (12th NCAA, 66.37m/217-09) and Shey Taiwo (13th NCAA, 66.35m/217-08).
• The Ole Miss pole vault squad will be at full strength in Arkansas this weekend, and enter not only as one of the top teams nationally but also with two of the top standouts so far this season. Lyndsey Reed currently sits 10th in the nation at 4.28m (14-00.50), the second-best height in school history that also made her just the second Rebel to ever join the 14-foot club indoors or outdoors. Samara McConnell also ranks in the top-25 in 23rd at her outdoor PR of 4.18m (13-08.50), the fourth-best in school history that also earned her SEC Freshman of the Week honors two weeks ago.
• Rebel newcomer Sintayehu Vissa will also have the week off after consecutive weeks of rewriting the Ole Miss record book. Two weeks ago in her first career 1500-meter race she dismantled the Ole Miss record by three seconds at 4:16.70 (26th NCAA), and just last week at Florida she ran the fastest outdoor 800-meter time by a Rebel in six years at 2:05.01 – the second-best in school history and currently the 22nd best in the NCAA.

MEN'S NOTES
• All-American senior John Rivera Jr. will look to clock his first outdoor 800-meter of the season at Arkansas this weekend. Ole Miss currently ranks as the USTFCCCA's second-best 800-meter squad with an average time of 1:48.77, while Rivera will be looking to best his previous outdoor PR of 1:48.39 from the 2019 Bryan Clay Invite. His lone outdoor action this season came at the Ole Miss Classic, when he rabbited the 800-meter to a 53.47 through one lap.
• Rivera will look to join an already stacked men's 800-meter squad ranking, which currently consists of Waleed Suliman (1:47.74, 11th NCAA), Baylor Franklin (1:48.27, 17th NCAA), Cade Bethmann (1:48.76, 27th NCAA) and Everett Smulders (1:50.30, 83rd NCAA).
• Ole Miss stands as the top 1500-meter squad nationally at an impressive average time of 3:39.63. He clocked in at the NCAA's second-best time at 3:36.53, a U.S. Olympic Trials standard for Suliman who became a U.S. citizen in late 2019 after spending his childhood across Sudan, Jordan and Virginia. Suliman's time puts him at No. 2 in Ole Miss history as well behind Robert Domanic's 2018 record of 3:36.33, which was the ninth-fastest in NCAA history at the time it was run.
• Mario Garcia Romo was right behind Suliman in that blazing 1500-meter race, finishing at the NCAA's third-best time of 3:37.17. Also contributing in the 1500-meter are Cade Bethmann (3:41.96, 38th NCAA) and Everett Smulders (3:42.86, 49th NCAA).
• All-American senior Allen Gordon ranks NCAA top-25 in both the long jump (23rd, 7.71m/25-03.50) and high jump (24th, 2.16m/7-01.00). After setting a career-best 15.29m (50-02.00) in the triple jump two weeks ago, Gordon currently stands as the only jump in the NCAA to have cleared 7-1 in the high jump, 25' 3.50" in the long jump and 50' 2" in the triple jump.
