Three Rebels Ready for NCAA Men’s Tennis Individual Championships

Reynolds to Start Singles Play on Saturday, Followed by Slavic and Sandkaulen Sunday
ORLANDO, Fla. – Finn Reynolds, Nikola Slavic and Tim Sandkaulen are set to compete in the NCAA Men's Singles Championships beginning Saturday night at the USTA National Campus. Reynolds and Sandkaulen also earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Doubles Championships beginning on Monday.

NCAA Singles Championships Round of 64
No. 16 Finn Reynolds vs. Sean Hill (BYU) – Saturday, May 22, Not Before 6:30 p.m. CT
Reynolds earned a No. 9-16 overall seed in the singles draw and will face the Cougars' Hill. Hill was placed into the tournament as a scratched players replacement after earning the No. 2 alternate seed. Their first-round matchup will be the only individual match played on Saturday night.
Reynolds enters the NCAA Singles Championship with an 11-10 overall record and is coming off of a straight-sets victory over Baylor's No. 11 Marias Soto. Reynolds co-leads the Rebels with eight ranked victories this season including three wins versus top-15 opponents. Reynolds has competed versus ranked opponents in 18 of 23 matches played this season. He is 3-0 versus non-ranked opponents this season, including a victory over Tennessee's Johannus Monday who is currently ranked No. 8 in the nation. Reynolds has had two three-match winning streaks this season and will look to make a run in the individual tournament as the Rebels' highest-ranked player.
Hill, unraked in the Oracle/ITA rankings, compiled a 17-2 record this season for the Cougars at No. 1 singles. He enters the NCAA Singles Championships on a current five-match win streak. Hill has a career singles record of 83-24. Notable victories for Hill this season include defeating Oregon's No. 30 Joshua Charlton (Jan. 19), San Diego's August Holmgren (April 10) and Pepperdine's No. 113 Adrian Oetzbach (April 23).
No. 29 Nikola Slavic vs. No. 17 Luc Fomba (TCU) – Sunday, May 23, 9 a.m. CT
Slavic co-led the Rebels this season with 14 victories and eight wins versus ranked opponents. He was 14-7 overall and an 8-3 versus ranked players. Slavic enters the NCAA Singles Championships having won seven of his last nine decisions. Slavic has defeated four competitors in the singles tournament this season: Juan Carlos Aguilar, Florida's Andy Andrade, Alabama's Edson Ortiz and Kentucky's Millen Hurrion.
The Horned Frogs' Fomba earned a No. 9-16 overall seed in the tournament. Fomba earned a 14-7 record this season competing primarily at No. 2 Singles for TCU. He is 5-5 versus ranked opponents this season and has notable victories over No. 8 Soto (April 25) and No. 19 Riley Smith from USC (Feb. 14). Fomba fell in three sets to Reynolds earlier this season on Feb. 7 in Oxford.
No. 32 Tim Sandkaulen vs. No. 90 August Holmgren (San Diego) – Sunday, May 23, 3:30 p.m. CT
Sandkaulen is set to compete in his third individual championships after reaching the second round in 2019 and first round in 2018. Sandkaulen played at both No. 1 and No. 2 Singles for the Rebels this season and earned nine dual victories. His 91 career singles victories rank 11th all-time at Ole Miss, two behind Sebastien DeChaunac at No. 10 in program history. Sandkaulen has defeated three ranked opponents this season and also enters the NCAA Singles Championships on a three-match win streak. Sandkaulen's highest ranked vicory of the season was versus No. 43 Florian Broska from Mississippi State in the Rebels' victory on Match 28.
Holmgren ranked tied for No. 90 in the Oracle/ITA rankings and has earned an overall dual record of 14-3 this season. Holmgren earned automatic qualification into the tournament by being the highest ranked player in the West Coast Conference. He started the season with 11 straight victories for the Toreros and had earned a victory over No. 1 ranked Daniel Cukierman from USC. Holmgren was named WCC Player of the Year this season and earned All-WCC First Team honors for the third time in his career.
NCAA Doubles Championships Round of 32
No. 1 Finn Reynolds/Tim Sandkaulen vs. Henri Squire/Eduardo Nava (Wake Forest) – Monday, May 24, Time TBD
Reynolds and Sandkaulen enter the NCAA Doubles Championships as the top seed in the tournament. The 2020 ITA All-American are ranked No. 1 in the nation, a distinction they have held since March 24 after beginning the year No. 7 in the preseason rankings. The Rebels tandem are 15-2 this season and 7-1 versus ranked opponents. They enter the tournament on a nine-match win streak and have not lost since March 12. Over the last three seasons the pairing has a 24-4 dual record. The NCAA Doubles Championships will consist of best of three set matches as opposed to the winner-take-all one set format in duals.
Squire and Nava are the No. 12 ranked team in the Oracle/ITA rankings and have earned a 13-5 overall record this season. They competed at No. 1 Doubles in all matches and were 6-1 in ACC competition. Versus ranked opponents the Demon Deacon duo split eight decisions with four victories and four defeats. Squire and Nava have defeated three teams ranked Nos. 20-25 this season but are 0-2 against top-10 opponents. Both student-athletes will be making their NCAA Tournament debuts.
