No. 47 Rebels Improve to 13-9 in 2022
LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 47 Ole Miss Women's Tennis (13-9, 5-7 SEC) earned a dominant 4-0 victory at No. 58 Kentucky (12-13, 0-12 SEC) on the road on Friday.
Ole Miss defeated No. 58 Kentucky 4-0 on Friday to earn its third straight 4-0 win this week and fifth win in the last five matches. The Rebels swept the doubles portion of the match, 2-0, and singles 3-0, while also leading in all matches on unfinished courts at the time of the clinch.
Sabina Machalova and Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher started the match off strong for the Rebels, defeating No. 27 ranked Fiona Arrese and Ellie Eades 6-4 at No. 1 Doubles. Lillian Gabrielsen and Rachel Krzyzak then clinched the doubles section for Ole Miss by defeating Kentucky's Carlota Molina and Florencia Urrutia 6-3. The Rebels took a 1-0 match lead.
Machalova set the tone for singles, winning the first individual set of the day 6-0 over Urrutia. The ITA No. 65-ranked Rebel then went on to win the second set 6-3 and put Ole Miss ahead 2-0 in the match. Gabrielsen extended the Ole Miss lead to 3-0 by defeating Lidia Gonzalez in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Gabrielsen improved to 16-9 overall and 11-4 in duals in singles this season. Ludmila Kareisová then sealed the win by defeating Carla Girbau by the identical score as Court No. 5, 6-2, 6-3. Kareisová improved her current singles win streak to five. The match was stopped with the Rebels clinching a 4-0 win at Kentucky.
Ole Miss led in all three unfinished singles matches. No. 123 Leclercq-Ficher led 5-3 up one set on Court No. 2, Krzyzak led 2-0 in the third set at No. 4 Singles and Reka Zadori led 4-3 at No. 6 Singles.
Up Next: The Rebels travel to Nashville to play No. 36 Vanderbilt in the final match of the regular season.
