Razorbacks Come Out on Top in Homer Filled Affair
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ole Miss and Arkansas battled back-and-forth in a home run showdown Saturday night but the Razorbacks had the last say, hitting a three-run, walk-off home run in the ninth to come away with a 6-3 win.
Taking a no decision, Hunter Elliott had a strong showing on the mound, delivering a career-high six complete frames with eight strikeouts, allowing three earned runs.
Arkansas (33-10, 13-7 SEC) jumped ahead in the first, with Brady Slavens sending a solo shot well over the right field wall. TJ McCants, however, responded with a long ball of his own, pulling a pitch out to right-center to deadlock the score at a run apiece.
Another big boom in the third pushed Ole Miss (24-18, 7-13 SEC) in front when Tim Elko launched an absolute missle into the Hog Pen in left field, sending and offering 466 feet to make it a 2-1 Rebel lead.
That lead lasted until the fifth when a leadoff hit-by-pitch came back to bite Elliott. Braydon Webb followed with a two-run home run to left and just like that, the Rebels found themselves down 3-2.
A leadoff HBP to Peyton Chatagnier and a pinch hit double down the left line from Ben Van Cleve set the Rebels up to respond in kind but Ole Miss failed to capitalize, heading to the home half still down a run.
The Rebels had another big opportunity to do some damage in the eighth, loading the bases on three-straight walks. Chatagnier rolled a ground ball up the middle and was doubled off to cut down a possible big inning, but the tying run was able to come across, evening things at three runs apiece.
Unfortunately for Ole Miss, the Razorbacks would win out in the end as Kendall Diggs walked off with a no-doubter in the final frame, evening the series at a win apiece.
The two sides will play for the series on Sunday at noon CT, with the game airing on national TV on ESPN. The call of the game can be heard through the Ole Miss Radio Network.
