Tigers Even Series With 2-0 Victory
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss softball fell to No. 10 LSU in a pitcher's duel Saturday night at the Ole Miss Softball Complex as the Tigers evened the series.
The Rebels (19-13, 1-4 SEC) were unable to string together hits against LSU (25-6, 3-5 SEC) as the Tigers struck out 10 Ole Miss batters. Aynslie Furbush looked impressive in the circle, coming up on the losing side despite holding LSU to four hits through 6.2 innings.
Back-to-back singles to start the game turned into the first run of the game for LSU, giving the Tigers an early lead. Ole Miss was able to put a pair of runners on base in the bottom half of the inning after Mikayla Allee walked and Keila Kamoku singled, but LSU kept the offense off the board.
Furbush settled into the game in the second, working an eight-pitch inning. From there, she cruised, retiring 15 of the next 17 batters based as Ole Miss and LSU settled into a pitcher's duel.
The Rebels threatened in the sixth inning, putting together a two-out rally. Allee was hit by a pitch, and Mya Stevenson followed with a base hit to right to give Ole Miss runners on the corners. Unfortunately, the Tigers got a big swinging strikeout to escape the inning and keep their 1-0 advantage.
LSU added an insurance run in the seventh after leading off the inning with a triple and plating the runner on a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
Down its final three outs, the Rebel managed to bring the tying run to the plate after Paige Smith singled, but a foul out ended the game.
Ole Miss and No. 10 LSU wrap up the series Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
