Track & Field Wins 11 More Titles to Conclude Ole Miss Classic

Jalani Davis Sets NCAA Lead in the Shot Put
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss track & field took advantage of a beautiful day outside, winning 11 more event titles to conclude the Ole Miss Classic on Saturday afternoon.
All-American senior and reigning NCAA Indoor weight throw champion Jalani Davis got off to a superb start in the shot put for the outdoor season, winning today by 4.5 feet at an outdoor PR and NCAA lead of 17.91m/58-09.25. Indoors, Davis became the first thrower in world history to break 60 feet in the shot put and 80 feet in the weight, and when combining her indoor shot put PR of 18.43m/60-05.75, she is still the only thrower in world history at 80 feet in the weight indoors, 60 feet in the shot put overall, and then 184 feet in the discus and 228 feet in the hammer outdoors.
Senior Tedreauna Britt had an excellent day as the runner-up in both the shot put and the discus, completing a trifecta of PRs in her throwing events this weekend. Britt was runner-up in the discus at a career-best 54.94m/180-03 (No. 16 NCAA) to improve on her spot in No. 4 in Ole Miss history, while taking runner-up to Davis in the shot put at a PR of 16.57m/54-04.50 (No. 7 NCAA) to move to No. 6 in school history.
In the men's throws, freshman Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan was the top finisher for the Rebels in both the shot put and discus in his outdoor debut in both events. He was the winner in the shot put at 18.63m/61-01.50, already putting him No. 3 in Ole Miss history and currently this season putting him No. 14 nationally, No. 7 regionally and No. 2 in the SEC. Robinson-O'Hagan also took runner-up in his discus debut at 52.48m/172-02 – No. 7 in school history.
Ole Miss had a great day in the hurdles, winning all three of the events it competed in. Senior Ahmad Young Jr. had a strong open in the men's 110-meter hurdles, running a windy but career-best 13.69 (+3.9). That time currently puts him No. 3 in the NCAA and East Region, as well as No. 2 in the SEC at the early point of the outdoor season. Young also moves into No. 5 in school history.
In the women's hurdles, senior Jaiden Paris claimed victory to start off a great double for the Rebel women on Saturday. She won the women's 100-meter hurdles at a season-best and wind-legal 13.40 (+1.5), already making her the No. 3 performer in Ole Miss history in her first year as a Rebel. That time also currently puts her No. 16 in the NCAA, No. 14 in the East Region and No. 6 in the SEC this season.
Not much later, Paris followed that up with a win in the women's 100-meter dash at a career-best 11.67 (+0.4).
Freshman Gabrielle Matthews opened her 400-meter hurdles collegiate career with a victory on Saturday, taking the win at 1:00.48 – making her No. 8 already in Ole Miss history.
Other Rebels claiming event wins on Saturday were Chase Rose in the men's 800-meter (1:50.76), Frances Luna in the women's 1500-meter (4:29.68), Landen McNair in the men's 1500-meter (3:51.44), Arvesta Troupe in the men's high jump (2.00m/6-06.75), and the women's 4x100-meter relay of Ariyonna Augustine, McKenzie Long, Jayda Eckford and Olivia Womack (44.79).
Ole Miss will split squad next week, heading to the Lone Star State for the Texas Relays (March 29-April 1), while the Rebel distance squad will head out west to the Stanford Invitational (March 31-April 1).
