Rebels Allow Two Goals in Second Half for First Time
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ole Miss (5-3-1, 1-1-0 SEC) dropped their first road conference match of the season 2-0 against Vanderbilt (6-1-3, 1-1-0 SEC) Thursday night.
The Rebels could not get much going offensively, being held without a shot in the first half and getting shut out for just the third time in 2023. Vanderbilt outshot Ole Miss 17-4, placing seven total shots on goal.
Shu Ohba made five saves and kept the Commodores off the board in the first half but surrendered two goals in the second half for the first time this season.
The Rebels took no shots in the first half, struggling to keep the ball in their attacking half. The defense was able to stand tall as Ohba made three saves on eight shots faced and went into halftime tied 0-0.
Vanderbilt scored first in the 53rd minute as Abi Brighton intercepted a pass and took it all the way into the box by herself and scored.
Jenna Kemp had one of the best chances of the night for Ole Miss in the 60th minute when she took a shot from just in front of the penalty area, but Kate Devine was able to make the stop.
The Commodores scored again in the 69th minute when Rachel Deresky redirected a pass from Tina Bruni that made its way past three Ole Miss defenders.
Kayla Chatman-Haggerty had a chance with less than three minutes to go right in front of the goal but would come up empty.
Ole Miss will return home to host Auburn on Sunday on SEC Network.
