Track & Field’s Toby Gillen Clocks Fast 5K Time in Boston
12/7/2024 | Track and Field
BOSTON, Mass. – Ole Miss track & field senior Toby Gillen put together a strong opening race to the indoor season in a stacked 5K field at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Friday night.
Gillen took sixth in the second seeded section of the 5000-meter at 13:30.34 in an overall field that featured Olympians, professionals and some of the top collegians in the nation. That time falls less than two seconds shy of his school record 13:28.81 run on the very same track this past February at BU's Valentine Invite. Nationally, Gillen's time ranks at least 18th in Division I at this early point of the indoor season (pending other meets around the country this week).
Gillen is only two weeks away from the conclusion of an excellent cross country season for the Rebels, during which he earned Second-Team All-SEC and NCAA All-South Region honors while leading Ole Miss to a 25th place team finish at the national meet.
Ole Miss will return to competition on Jan. 10-11, when the Rebels will split for the Rod McCravy Invitational in Louisville and the Commodore Challenge at Vanderbilt.
