No. 1 Men’s Golf Sits Second After Round Two at Puerto Rico Classic
2/11/2025 | Men's Golf
RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The No. 1 Ole Miss men’s golf team posted another round in red figures on Tuesday, posting a score of (-11, 277), placing them second after 36 holes at the Puerto Rico Classic.
Cohen Trolio carded his second straight round of 66 and junior Michael La Sasso added a round of 5-under 67.
“We got off to a great start and looked really sharp early on” said head coach Chris Malloy. “However, we had a few mental errors that we must eliminate. One of our goals each tournament is to give ourselves a chance heading into the final round and we have done that.”
Trolio continued his hot start to the spring with another round of 6-under, pushing him to 12-under par for the tournament. He carded seven birdies on his round, including two over his final two holes down the stretch. The Magnolia State native has his eyes set on his first collegiate victory after setting a new career-best finish this past fall at the Hamptons Intercollegiate. Trolio finished third in East Hampton, en route to Ole Miss’s first team victory of the season at Maidstone Club.

He would card back-to-back bogeys on 13 and 14 but battled back with a birdie on 17. La Sasso made an incredible second shot on the par 5 18th, threading a hybrid between two palm trees. He would go on to birdie 18, shooting (-5, 67) in round two. The junior from Raleigh, North Carolina, sits at 7-under for the tournament in a tie for ninth.
