Men’s Track & Field Ties Program Record with Third-Place Finish at SEC Indoor Championships
3/1/2025 | Track and Field
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Ole Miss men's track & field received multiple scoring performances and a second title from Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan to push to a record-tying third place finish to conclude an excellent stay at the SEC Indoor Championships on Saturday.
The No. 17 Ole Miss men tied with No. 9 Oklahoma for third place at 56.5 points, behind No. 1 Arkansas in second with 102 points and No. 4 Texas A&M at 107.5 points. The third-place finish for Ole Miss ties for its best indoor finish – men or women – joining previous third-place finishes in 1983, 1984, 2016 and 2017, with 10th-year head coach Connie Price-Smith now owning three of those five.
One year after becoming the first athlete in SEC history to sweep the men's shot put and weight throw, junior and Bowerman watch list member Robinson-O'Hagan did so again with his victory in the shot put on Saturday.
Robinson-O'Hagan held command of the competition from the second round onward, and he sealed victory with his fourth-round throw of 20.81m/68-03.25 that wound up winning by more than 2.5 feet.
In addition to winning his second SEC title of the weekend, this marks Robinson-O'Hagan's seventh career SEC crown (fourth indoor) and he owns a whopping 84 career SEC points.
In the men's 800-meter final, senior Marcus Dropik concluded his excellent Ole Miss career in superb fashion. In seventh place at the bell, Dropik charged all the way up to fourth place at the line at 1:49.00 – good for five crucial points that contributed to Ole Miss' record third-place tie. Across his Rebel career, Dropik was a two-time SEC Champion in the distance medley relay, a four-time SEC scorer with 12 career points and among the fastest 800-meter runners in program history.
In the women's 3K final, senior midyear transfer Greta Karinauskaite claimed fourth overall at 9:11.90, adding five points to the women's score. Fellow senior Beth Arentz won the first section at a career-best 9:25.01, which finished 13th overall and ranks her 11th in school history.
Meanwhile, in the men's 3K final, senior midyear transfer Kidus Misgina clocked in at 7:57.57 to take seventh overall, adding two crucial points to the men's total. Senior Elyas Ayyoub won the first heat and took ninth overall at a career-best 8:00.63.
Sophomore Mensi Stiff finished seventh with a throw of 16.84m/55-3 in a strong women's shot put competition, adding two points to the women's score.
Heading into the men's 4x400-meter relay tied with Oklahoma, the Rebel quartet of Wesley Todd, Jordan Urrutia, Carson Turner and Joshua Knox knew they had to finish ahead of the Sooners to at least stay ahead of OU in the team standings. The Rebels did just that, as Joshua Knox tracked down the Oklahoma anchor and brought Ole Miss across the line in 3:10.15 – the fastest relay by the Rebels since 2012 and the eighth-best in program history.
Ole Miss finished just outside of the scoring in ninth place, but received four strong efforts out of Todd (47.45), Urrutia (46.89), Turner (47.89) and Knox (47.94).
Up next for Ole Miss will be the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships, this year held in Virginia Beach. Qualifying lists for the national meet will be released in the coming days.
