PREFONTAINE STADIUM
• Ole Miss will officially rename its track & field facility to Prefontaine Stadium with a dedication ceremony on Friday morning. The new facility name comes courtesy of a $750,000 gift from Ole Miss supporters Debbie and Andy Prefontaine. The Prefontaines became Ole Miss fans when their son, Kevin, attended the university in the 1990s, with Andy choosing Ole Miss track & field's stadium as the destination for his gift in part as a way to honor his cousin, the legendary Steve Prefontaine, who ran at Oregon and was the crown jewel of American distance running before his tragic death at the age of 24.
• Prefontaine Stadium, previously known as the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex, was built in 2004 and recently received $7.2 million in upgrades in 2017 that can seat 1,500 spectators in its new design. In 2022, a brand-new locker room facility -- the Jerry Hollingsworth Track & Field / Cross Country Facility -- was opened for use as an addition to the overall complex. Both sets of renovations helped the facility shine for the 2022 SEC Outdoor Championships, which helped generate an estimated $2.8 million in business for the Oxford community.
NOTES
• Ole Miss is coming off a successful indoor season that saw the Rebel men claim an individual title and finish tied for 10th place at the NCAA Indoor Championships last week -- tied for the second-best indoor national finish in Ole Miss men's history. The Rebels scored 20 points for that 10th-place tie, the fifth consecutive top-15 national finish indoors by the Ole Miss men -- the longest such streak in combined program history, indoors or outdoors.
• Following last week's national finish, seven of the 10 total all-time NCAA top-10 track finishes in Ole Miss history have come under the watch of 10th-year head coach Connie Price-Smith: 2025 men's indoor (T-10th), 2024 women's outdoor (5th), 2024 women's indoor (5th), 2023 women's indoor (10th), 2022 women's indoor (T-6th), 2022 men's indoor (T-10th), 2021 men's indoor (10th), 2013 men's outdoor (8th), 2001 men's indoor (10th) and 1991 men's indoor (9th).
• Junior Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan led the way, scoring 14 of those 20 points after winning his third consecutive NCAA shot put title and taking fifth place in what turned out to be the toughest NCAA weight throw final in collegiate history. Robinson-O'Hagan -- the SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Year, SEC Cliff Harper Trophy co-winner and a three-time watch list selection for The Bowerman -- ended his junior indoor season ranked second in collegiate history in combined weight throw (24.35m/79-10.75) and shot put (21.11m/69-03.25) PRs at 45.46m behind North Dakota State's Payton Otterdahl at 45.92m.
• Fellow junior Arvesta Troupe contributed to that team total as well, scoring in third place in the men's high jump for his first career All-America award. On the women's side, Akaoma Odeluga represented the Rebel women in the shot put in ninth place.
• The Rebel men also finished tied for third at the SEC Indoor Championships, which tied an Ole Miss men's indoor record. That finish was helped largely by Robinson-O'Hagan, who repeated as the champion in both the weight throw and shot put after becoming the first in SEC history to do so in 2024.
• In total from the 2024 outdoor season, Ole Miss returns four First or Second-Team All-Americans, seven NCAA qualifiers, 19 NCAA East Region qualifiers, and four SEC medalists: Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan (men's shot put, gold; men's hammer gold), Jake Dalton (men's hammer, silver), Akaoma Odeluga (women's shot put, bronze), and Arvesta Troupe (men's high jump, bronze).
