Track & Field Earns Three More Medals, Including Repeat Win by Robinson-O’Hagan
5/16/2025 | Track and Field
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Ole Miss track & field received yet another title defense from star junior Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan, as well as two additional impressive medal performances to highlight the second day of the 2025 SEC Outdoor Championships on Friday.
Robinson-O'Hagan – who yesterday won by 24 feet in the men's hammer – had a tighter competition on Friday in the shot put, but was still able to pull out his ninth career conference victory on a fourth-round toss of 20.68m/67-10.25. That said, his margin of victory still was roughly one foot further than runner-up Christopher Licata of South Carolina, who came within an inch of toppling Robinson-O'Hagan at the NCAA Indoor Championships last March.
This marks the second consecutive outdoor sweep of the shot put and hammer for Robinson-O'Hagan, who joins Georgia's Denzel Comenentia (2017, '18) and Auburn's Cory Martin (2007, '08) as the lone athletes in SEC history to sweep those events at the same conference meet. Furthermore, this adds on to Robinson-O'Hagan's legacy as the lone athlete in conference history to sweep the indoor shot and weight throw, let alone twice in row in 2024 and 2025, and let alone when combined with an outdoor sweep in the shot and hammer within the same season.
In his now six career SEC meets, Robinson-O'Hagan owns an absurd 104 conference points scored (17.3 per meet) along with his nine titles in 13 attempts and his now four consecutive sweeps.
Earlier in the women's shot put, All-American sophomore Akaoma Odeluga claimed her second consecutive SEC medal outdoors – this time a silver for the Rebel women.
Odeluga – the reigning World U20 champion who was a bronze medalist as a freshman outdoors last spring – found herself in a powerful SEC final that featured three women all above 18 meters. Odeluga's first attempt 18.63m/61-01.50 ended up as her best on the day.
Her performance today marks the sixth runner-up or better effort by the Rebel women in the SEC shot put outdoors – all since 10th-year head coach Connie Price-Smith and throws coach John Smith arrived in 2016.
Fellow All-American sophomore Mensi Stiff scored two more points for the Rebel women as well, taking seventh place at a season-best 17.11m/56-01.75.
Ole Miss' third medal of the day came in what turned out to be a powerful men's pole vault final, led by Rebel sophomore and Oxford native, John Kendricks.
Kendricks, who transferred back home to Ole Miss last summer after spending his freshman campaign at Arkansas, led a strong outing from the Rebel men overall, finishing third for the bronze medal at a career-best clearance of 5.50m/18-00.50.
That height makes Kendricks one of only two 18-footers in Ole Miss history – the other, of course, being his older brother: three-time Olympian Sam Kendricks at his school-record height of 5.81m/19-00.75 from 2013.
The SEC final in the men's pole vault ended up with national degrees of difficulty, finishing with an incredible five athletes at 18 feet, nine to clear at least 17-8, and 11 total career-bests – including three by the Rebels: Kendricks, senior Drew O'Connor (8th, 5.40m/17-08.50; No. 4 Ole Miss history) and junior Logan Kelley (11th, 5.30m/17-04.50; No. 8 Ole Miss history).
Ole Miss also advanced two through to finals on the track, with Evan Thornton-Sherman (3:45.39) and Gabe Scales (3:51.34) earning auto-bids to the men's 1500-meter final scheduled for Saturday.
The 21st-ranked Rebel men currently lead the team standings heading into the final day, with 48 points ahead of No. 5 Georgia (43) and No. 12 Alabama (42).
Ole Miss track & field returns for the final day of action on Saturday, beginning with the women's discus at 1:30 p.m. CT. For more info and for details on how to follow along with the action at the 2025 SEC Outdoor Championships, check out our meet preview HERE.
