Track & Field’s Alicia Burnett Takes 100-Meter Silver to Close 2026 SEC Outdoor Championships
5/16/2026 | Track and Field
That medal came courtesy of All-American senior Alicia Burnett in the women's 100-meter dash, the fifth medal of the meet overall for the Rebels. Burnett – the first SEC women's 60-meter champion in Ole Miss history – ran the fastest wind-legal time of her career at 11.01 (+0.5), but was edged at the line by a sub-11 performance by champion Gabrielle Matthews of Florida at 10.97.
Burnett's finish today ties for the best ever by a Rebel woman in the event, with Teneeshia Jones also earning a silver in the 100-meter in 2000.
Less than 90 minutes earlier, Burnett was the anchor leg for one of the best 4x100-meter relays all-time at Ole Miss. Alongside Zion Lockette, Patchnalie Compere and Royanah Farmer, the foursome passed the stick in 43.27 – good for two points in seventh place that makes them the No. 2 relay squad in Ole Miss history behind the 2024 national champion unit that broke the 43-second barrier four times.Alicia Burnett's silver medal performance came in a wind-legal PR 11.01 (+0.5), tying her with Teneeshia Jones' silver medal in 2000 for the best finish ever by a Rebel woman in the 100-meter 🔥#HottyToddy x #SECTF pic.twitter.com/lq5myoG86c

That time also moves Ole Miss up to No. 16 on the national list, putting the Rebels in good position heading into the NCAA East Regional in two weeks.
Minutes later, the Ole Miss men's 4x100-meter relay of Dekell Minor, Jordan Urrutia, Wesley Todd and Tarique Wright smashed their own school record en route to a fifth-place showing at 38.65 – the best SEC finish by a Rebel men's 4x1 since 2011 (fourth). Earlier this season, this same quartet became the first Ole Miss relay to break 39 seconds at 38.98, but have now shaved a further three tenths of a second. Currently, Ole Miss ranks seventh in the NCAA in the event.𝟰𝘅𝟭𝟬𝟬𝗺 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘆 | vroom vroom! 🏎️

Urrutia added three more points of his own in the men's 200-meter dash final, the first individual SEC final of his young career. Urrutia was sixth at a wind-legal PR of 20.42 (+0.5), making him the first scorer in the event since Elijah Dryer finished eighth in 2021 and the best Rebel finisher since Olympian Isiah Young won the 2013 title.𝟰𝘅𝟭𝟬𝟬𝗺 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘆 | Rebel men SMASH their own school record 🤯⛽️

In the men's 800-meter final, fellow sophomore Max Armstrong had his best race as a Rebel against a blazing fast field. Armstrong came through with the pack on a first lap of 52.47 and held firm with a final 400 of 53.59, crossing the line in a massive PR of 1:46.06 to finish fifth overall.𝟮𝟬𝟬𝗺 𝗗𝗮𝘀𝗵 | Great race by Jordan Urrutia in his first SEC final, finishing 6th at a wind-legal PR 20.42 (+0.5) 🔥#HottyToddy x #SECTF pic.twitter.com/iBz2pT6KTk

Armstrong now ranks fourth all-time on Ole Miss' superb top list, trailing only George Kersh's 1:44.07 from 1991, Baylor Franklin's 1:45.65 from 2022 and Craig Engels' 1:46.03 from 2016.
To close the night, Armstrong ran anchor on the fastest outdoor 4x400-meter relay at Ole Miss since 1994. Armstrong split 45.52 on the anchor, pushing the Rebel foursome of Wesley Todd, Cade Flatt and Carson Turner across the line in 3:05.09 – good for No. 5 all-time at Ole Miss outdoors.𝟴𝟬𝟬-𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 | Max Armstrong rips off a final 400 of 53.59 to finish 5th at a blazing new PR 1:46.06 😤#HottyToddy x #SECTF pic.twitter.com/YuWrBvbZZq

Junior Sterling Scott led the charge for the Rebel athletes in the field on Saturday, finishing fourth in the men's triple jump at a wind-legal PR of 16.36m/53-08.25 (+0.3). Scott has scored in both of his SEC meets as a Rebel after also finishing sixth indoors this past season, and his scoring performance is the first by an Ole Miss men's athlete in the event outdoors since 2014, when Ricky Robertson and Philip Young took second and third, respectively.
In the women's pole vault, sophomore Lily Beattie earned her third career SEC scoring effort after tying for seventh place at 4.06m/13-03.75.
Up next, Rebel athletes who are qualified and declared will travel to the University of Kentucky for the NCAA East Regional, held May 27-30 in Lexington, Kentucky.
